IP address changed and now problems with internet access

I think that avast! doesn’t like that ATT changed my IP address overnight. I went into the avast main menu to allow the new one, but don’t see where I do that.

specs: avast premier all updated, firefox, google+, Win7 SP1 64 bit (all updated), avast smart scan and malwarebytes scan: no problems yesterday

the problems I’m experiencing:
first was that firefox screen - problem loading: restore or close? I closed and reopened
then google screen - cookies not allowed I allowed
very slow to load
then gmail - no access to chat I clicked try again and it loaded
no images in email until I right click select view image, then go back to email and finally loads
then I checked google account activity and noticed that the IP had been changed (ATT had originally assigned one out of TN and I live in GA, now the IP is showing my exact location. Checked the IP to be sure it was ATT and it is.
internet search for similar problems and none found, and ATT forums are closed for maintenance
signed out, shut down firefox (cleared cache), restarted computer but still the same problems
went into avast interface and looked all over for the screen that shows IP addresses and couldn’t find it. [/li]

Thanks for any help, advice, etc.

What exact version of avast ?
And why do you think it is avast ?

Avast Premier 2015.10.2.2214
I think it is avast as I’ve pretty much troubleshooted everything else and the little icon in the taskbar spins a lot while trying to use firefox, with google thru AT&T

Please tell me where I go within the user interface to view the IP addresses
Thanks!

You can’t set your IP in avast since there is no need for it.

Dunno if it’s related. But I too am an AT&T Customer, and cannot browse, receive email, etc. since last night as long as the respective shields (mail or web) are turned on. Turning them off makes everything work just fine.

This began last night (approx 10 hours) ago. I was about to post my problem when I saw this… wondered if there might be a connection.

I was working under the assumption it had to do with an Avast update I finally did last night, but… maybe not.

interesting! if you find out if there’s something wrong with ATT, please post here. Thanks!

isn’t the webshield, etc. dependent upon the internet connection?
thanks again

I suggest to perform a clean installation of the latest avast version and see if it change things.

As I said, if a ISP changes your external IP it shouldn’t have any influence on avast.
If it did it would mean that people who don’t have a “static” IP would need to make changes in the settings everyday they login to the net.
From ATT:

A Static IP Address is an IP Address that is associated with your account that never changes and can be assigned to a specific device.
Very false information as you people have found out because they did change your IP addresses. Did they told you why they changed it ? If so, please mention it in this thread. A reason could be that they are upgrading from IPV4 to IPV6.

Please all who have this problem provide information like:

  • The OS/SP used
  • The exact version of avast
  • If avast was freshly installed or if it was only a upgrade
  • Other security (related) software installed (or previously had, and if so how it was removed)

Let’s see if we can find things that you have in common except for the IP change.
It may help to find a solution to the problem.

Thanks, Eddy.

Glad to know about my misconception with IP addresses stored somewhere in avast user interface. I thought I had surely seen them somewhere.

Update - my IP is now back to the original and everything is working fine again.

Answer - no AT&T did not inform me that they were changing my IP address.

Thankful that it is now back to the original and working well!

and a huge thanks to you and the forum for all of the great assistance!

Try these commands from an elevated command prompt. It may be that the network needs to be reset

ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh int ipv4 reset
netsh int ipv6 reset

thanks! but everything seems to be working fine now

just in case I do need to do the ‘flush’ what/where is an elevated command prompt?

The commands reset and clear out any accrued rubbish in the network system

An elevated command prompt is :

Go Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator

And what if he wants to run as a Jaguar? ;D

Thanks essexboy! I figured that was where I would run the command prompt, but wasn’t sure it was the same as an “elevated” one.
Is it safe to flush the rubbish in the network system? Anything to watch for, etc.?

Happy to write that this morning my old and ‘trusted’ IP is the one working and I’ve still no problems with internet access.

Right now I would say, don’t try to fix something that isn’t broken

Concur with Eddy

my thoughts exactly
