Or do I need a secondary layer of protection, such as Malwarebytes PRO?
I am content with just Avast! and it doesn’t appear to slow down my system either, and when I tried Malwarebytes in the past, which was about half a year ago I did notice some slowdown.
I use Chrome as my browser, have Javascript, plugins and cookies disabled by default, and use the WebRep extension to help me navigate through the web.
I also never click on ads, and DL only from trusted sources.
So is this setup fine for me, or do I need an additional program?
It is never ideal to have two resident scanners actively protecting the system, they can conflict and create more problems rather than offering the expected added layer of protection. Good habits and routine scans with Malwarebytes Free is in most cases sufficient, utilize a good DNS server setup to help filter malicious traffic, keep Windows and Avast updated to the latest version with the latest updates and continue to practice good habits and most likely you won’t find need for additional programs. That said IF you do not feel it helps enough there are some Antivirus programs designed to run alongside your current (Avast) antivirus. Kingsoft has just released a cloud based program that does just this, Immunet Protect is another example. Again though you should be fine without the need for added protection in almost all cases.
Pondus already mentioned an excellent program to run alongside avast, avast and malwarebytes pro run great together and no issues as does superantispyware.
Thanks for all the recommendations, I have installed Malwarebytes PRO and openDNS, and everything stills works great, no slowdown when surfing the internet either
I had typed that and stopped part of the way through, then finished and posted not fully aware of the post that was preceding although I got the msg something had been posted I completed the post I was making. I am fully aware that you CAN run MBAM with Avast, it is not 100% NEEDED for many however, as to the Chinese AV makers, I tend to agree generally speaking but I was #1 only making the comment as an example that some AV programs are capable of running together and #2 Kingsoft does a fairly impressive job actually and shocked many including myself by being more than expected from the “Chinese” AV creators. I am new (with this user name) to this forum but not to the PC game as a whole, but we are all here for the same reasons and that is for or to help others and so I understand the posts and just wished to explain why I had posted as I did, I just did not notice ALL of what was stated in the post prior to mine, happens when you get in a rush to get going and try to drop a quick line first, my apologies on that one. Seems all sorta now anyway so again thanks and have a great whatever time of day or night it is where you are.
