Is it avast or my computer that a problem?

Hello Everyone,
My os is windows 2000 pro. The used space is 5.87 gb, with 31.3 gb free.
I’m new to the Avast forum, but not to avast anti virus software. I had it a few years ago, but my computer died.

I downloaded it again a couple of weeks ago but I’m having a problem and I’m not sure if it’s with avast or my computer. So I’m hoping maybe someone here can help me.

Last night I tried to do a complete thorough scan of my system. It worked to a point then this is what I got.
“Stop: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, ox804B6D41, 0x0000001, 0x00000019) KMODE_Exception_ Not_ Handled
***Address 804B6D41 base at 80400000, Data Stamp 4344ec59_Ntoskrnl.exe
If this is the 1st time you’ve seen this “Stop Error” screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps.
Be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check for Bios updates. Disable Bios memory options such as caching or shadowing.

I have no idea how to do what this is telling me to do. Also, when I try to get windows updates, my computer crashes.
Is it the avast software my computer, or a virus?
Can someone tell me what’s going on and how to fix it?

Thanks…

Can this give you an idea?

Thanks for the reply!
But that is one of my problems I’m having since I’ve installed avast. I’m still not sure if it’s my pc or avast.

I can’t get updates from microsoft. I can’t even get the microsoft site to finish looking for the updates because my pc crashes.

I can’t get avast to do a complete or deep scan either.
I’m sorry it’s taken this long to get back on this problem.
It kind of makes me want to throw this thing out the window.

Thank You for any and all your help.

 Hi :

Since your computer crashes when trying to get Windows
Update(s), I do not know if it will do the same if you try
to download a program that describes Error Messages for
 Windows at :
 www.gregorybraun.com/MSWinErr.html !?

Thanks Spiritsongs,
I will try it and get back with you.

It Worked ! ! ;D

It took some doing, but I got it and everything seems to be fine. Thank you so very much !

Keep Looking Up

What? What did you do?
