I agree the subject’s question looks as a real silly one :-[ But it happens that I was born and live in Syria (actually in Aleppo city).
About 18 months ago, I understood (without blaming anyone) that Avast group was informed to stop serving Avast subscribers living in Syria (Syria in the least, since I don’t know if there were other countries on the list). Even the main Avast site was blocked if its visitor was detected being from Syria.
Naturally, since then I had to accept that Avast doesn’t exist for me anymore, as many things in the world may cease, sooner or later, to exist, including my mortal body
Today, by mere curiosity, I tried opening Avast site to find out… it returned to life again!!!
Unless somebody can tell me how this was allowed to happen, I take it as a clever trap, much like the historical Trojan Horse, sorry
I am suspicious now because I am among the millions of victims who are attacked (since March 2011) by almost the whole world (so far, not less than 250,000 foreign fighters were sent into Syria from more than 40 countries) while the world’s great powers are telling their people various fairy tales to entertain them (like there is a revolution or civil war in Syria). I am not talking politics here; I say it just to know how Avast group dares to be friend again with Syrians while all great companies in the free world are ‘forced’ to act like enemies instead. Sorry, this is sad news but this is life since men were created so it doesn’t surprise me (for example, I just need to recall the millions of WW2 victims and later, in Europe).
I don’t know if it is safe for you to use Avast, but I know that I support brave Syrian Arab Army and President
Bashar Al Assad in their fight against terrorist rats and scum from all over the world.
Their end is definitely near.Good luck to you and to the all Syrians.
Although my government is a part of so called “Friends of Syria” I know the truth.
Greetings from Croatia.
Thank you Para-Noid for your personal care to help.
And as you pointed out on your signature, I did ask this question ‘on purpose’ to avoid contacting Avast directly before understanding what is real happening in the world.
I hope you agree with me that we teach our children not to accept any gift (though I was an Avast subscriber for too many years) from a stranger mainly if he is also not free and independent. But we, the adults, we can take the risk in doing it because, naturally, we should have more experience to deal with. And if you still have your good memory, you would remember my very old thread “I will miss you” because at that time, I was very sad to discover another sign of the modern slavery (dressed by soft words, expressions and excuses) while I had the chance to be real independent in all my decisions (since I have never looked for the glory of men or any of their treasures).
No harm intended, you may not get what I mean since where you live having money and being famous are all that counts (at any cost) though I have the impression you are an exception since you took the trouble to help me for free
Sorry for my sincerity, but to me the most precious thing (that cannot be bought by any price) that someone can offer to another is what he has really in mind, heart and soul (no matter what it is). But I also understand, because I live it almost daily, that precious stones may look just ordinary ones to those who had never the chance to see them before
Me too, I was always very satisfied in using Avast in the past though, being in Syria, it wasn’t easy for me at all to renew my subscription (as in your case for example). Every time, I had to find someone outside Syria to pay the fees for me. And I didn’t think replacing Avast anytime in the past though my name couldn’t be on the subscribers list.
I am myself a programmer (for about 30 years). Naturally, I know that in any software many functions could be made invisible to some users (including the programs that drive the new cars and airplanes for a few). The international regulations impose on Avast group (actually on all corporations and companies in the so-called free world) to deal with you, for example, as a friend and they also have the power to define those who should be treated as dangerous and enemies (this actual fact doesn’t surprise me since this is the case since 2000 years).
I personally understand always when someone has to play the enemy towards me, for one reason or another. But even I see him always as a human being hence like a good brother to me, I can’t blame him if he enjoys hurting me to please some masters (for the glory of men). At the same time, I believe it is wise keeping myself far from him when possible So I guess I should re-phrase my question and say: Have the international regulations allowed recently the Europeans to see me a real friend to them again (as you are, I hope) or not yet? In real life, ANY good program could be made as another Trojan Horse when necessary
I have no doubt about your remark concerning Spybot. But please remember I don’t live in America… I have very limited options to choose from not only in this field but also in too many others. For example, every time I need designing/producing a new electronic controller, I have to consider first the available components I can depend on. And my complex firmware I wrote for my boards (needed by the local market) are assembled (not compiled) by a very old assember on DOS since I can’t buy a genuine compiler (with debugger and simulation in the least) since about 25 years. So you are fortunate. Your life is made easy… well, I guess you may have other kinds of issues
It seems MBAM is shareware.
May I ask you what shareware means for MBAM user?
Do you think I can use it always since I cannot pay for it (even if I want to)?
I use MBAM without paying for it. This means there is no active protection and is used only for doing manual scans. It also means manual updates to it’s detection signatures.
As Gopher John stated MBAM is “freeware” and is not resident.
Meaning you will need to do manual updates and does “not” provide real-time protection.
I’d suggest updating and running manual scans once a week.
MBAM works great along side avast. SpyBot has a “tea timer” which could
cause/create conflicts with avast leading to either false positives or lack of protection.
