is it safe to use AVG anti-spyware

…even if i have install AVAST anti-virus? is there an conflict?

The free version of AVG anti spyware is similar to SpyBot or AdAware, it does not do real-time monitoring, so it shouldn’t be a problem. It is generally a good idea to have an antivirus product and at least one separate anti spyware product at the same time (I have two). There is no single anti spyware product out there that will actually catch everything you can get on your computer, so doubling up can keep your system very clean.

sir, can i ask for a recommendation? what best anti-spyware can i use?

Best is a very subjective (and also depends on your OS) but AVG-anti-spyware works fine with avast, there are others, check my signature for a start.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it.

  1. Ewido, a.k.a. avg anti-spyware If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
  2. Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
  3. Spybot Search and Destroy
  4. Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.

Not a conflict with avast.
I would use only the on-demand scanners of both AVGas and a-squared.
Three applications won’t conflict. If you buy AVGas or a-squared you can choose one of them. Test them and see which one is better for your needs.

4. Spywareblaster Don't install this until you are clean.

why sir?

Stop calling him, “sir”. He works for a living

Spywareblaster keeps spyware off your computer but doesn’t help if the spyware is already there. Run your spyware removal software first to make sure your computer is clean, then install Spywareblaster to help keep it clean.

Now where have I heard that one before?

Oh, it’s coming back to me …

does it conflict with avast?(it has resident protection)
do i need to disable some feature/s in avast to use this spywareblaster?

I’m using AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (paid version), and it work just fine with avast!

No. They’re compatible.

No.

While it’s not necessary, I find it handy to pause avast’s standard shield while doing an on-demand scan with anything else. That way you don’t have both programs trying to scan the same file at the same time, and the scan by AVG AS (or whatever) should run a little faster. Don’t forget to resume avast afterwards, of course.

Although, Spywareblaster does not scans… it just immunize the computer.

is it ok to activate the resident shield of AVG anti-spyware?

Yes the two work OK, but if you have the free/trial version the resident/guard process is only available for the duration of the 30 day trial. After the trial the resident and auto update functions are disabled.

Yes, it will work fine with avast!

Tech:

Why did you say to use only the on-demand scanner of AVG? Are you aware of some sort of conflict between real-time protection of AVG and Avast?

I’m trying to decide between Webroot SpySweeper and AVG to complete my security package of Avast, Comodo Firewall, and SuperAntiSpyware. (SuperAntiSpyware is on-demand scanning only and I want real-time spyware protection).

There isn’t any conflict, one is an antivirus and the other an antispyware.
But:

  1. The AVG guard (resident) is NOT free.
  2. You’ll take much more resources of the computer having this configuration.
  3. If you do not browse dangerously (in sites that are infected), it’ll be enough using just avast as resident and, from time to time, make an AVG scanning (on-demand).

Well… I think you need to consider the extra-protection and the performance of the computer you want.
Above, my opinion… I know the developers of Webroot SpySweeper or AVG won’t like I say they’re not necessary for the protection… Remember, surf safely 8)
