Is my pc infected??

Whenever my pc is idle, that is, when the screensaver is on, simultaneously avast scanner also starts. There had been no problem until last month when the scanner started popping up a warning that the pc is infected. After just two minutes of scanning, this alert pops up. In the follow up dialog box I chose to delete that file but the problem continues to persist. Every time the scanner starts, this warning appears. I did a boot time scan but the problem has not been eliminated yet. The scanner says that the infected file is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\072

I cleaned up the temporary files folder but this problem hasn’t subsided yet.
Off late, I have been experiencing a drastic fall in my pc’s performance too. The net connection has also slowed down.

Is this a case of infection and has my PC’s speed slowing down got anything to do with it?
Please suggest something.

Try a boot scan with Avast

If problem persists

Try to scan with Malwarebytes because Avast is not very good at spyware detection.

Try to force delete that file if it is not quarantined or if Avast can’t delete it.

Enable Windows update

I will not accept this blindly, I need proofs.

Thank u Chris.
I force deleted that file using the ‘unlocker’ software & then boot scanned & removed all other files.
My pc is working fine now & its performance is also same as before.
Thanks a lot!!
