Xfire now do file transfer
really like avast to cover xfire never know what may walk into system
I’m unsure what it is that you want, do you want avast to scan files downloaded by xfire ?
If so - Assuming that you installed avast! in the default folder, this is the path needed to scan downloads, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe. This assumes xfire has an option to have downloaded files scanned.
Xfire is a Internet massager service like yahoo, msn, aim…ect
only xfire IM work with in games as will outside the games, it download files to system work.
i like it be cover mainly so no may get a virus transfer from other sneaking through it.
you can text to each other or talk live with others as will.
with-in a game

Well some messenger services although they aren’t directly covered by the IM Shield they may still have the option in the IM program to have files that are downloaded scanned by an AV.
So if xfire doesn’t have that option and it isn’t in the list of supported IMs then by raising the Standard Shield to High may then scan files downloaded by xfire. However, raising the sensitivity level of Standard Shield to High may have a knock on effect on the game if it accesses lots of files, logs, etc.
You could request that xfire be added to the supported IMs in the Internet Messaging provider in the avast 4 Home/Pro Wishlist http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=12640.0
Many Avast users have trouble connecting to the Xfire instant messenger service after the Xfire program updates.
Is it possible that Avast prevents Xfire instant messenger from connecting to it’s server? Meaning, does Avast block unrecognized programs from connecting to the internet?
Is there a permission list where Xfire can be set to allowed?
Please provide any details regarding this issue.
Thank you for your help.
Xfire is not on the list of supported IM programs from avast.
Are you sure it’s not a problem of firewall permission (access)?
The issues seem to persist even after adding Xfire to Firewall permissions.
This is why I was curious as to the above (and below) questions:
Is it possible that Avast prevents Xfire instant messenger from connecting to it’s server? Meaning, does Avast block unrecognized programs from connecting to the internet?
Is there a permission list where Xfire can be set to allowed?
What is the supported IM programs list? Since Xfire isn’t on the list, what effect will that have on what Xfire can and cannot do?
thanks for your help!
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon. Click ‘Details’ button. Choose ‘IM’ provider at left and click ‘Customize’ button.
For sure avast does not block anything. It’s an antivirus, it scans, does not block.
The firewall could be blocking avast components.
Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.
Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
For sure avast does not block anything. If this is true, then I can be sure that it's not preventing Xfire from accessing the internet/server.
Thanks for all of your expedient help! I really appreciate it.
