I have been using this for almost two years now, and have recently started a new job from home where most of my time is spent on the computer. I really love that Avast updates constantly, but it always chooses the worst times to do so. However, I also love that I can have it be automatic, but to turn it to manual would be a pain I don’t really feel like messing with. So what I need is either some command line code that I can have execute from a batch file or a setting that I can change to make it run the updates at a scheduled time. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You can only update through command line in the Professional version.
Why are you saying avast choose a wrong time to update?
avast checks if there is an available connection each 40 seconds.
If there isn’t, wait more 40 seconds to check. Checking does not take more than one second and, of course, does not use the Internet band.
If there is a connection, check for an update. If there is not any new file to download, wait 4 hours to start checking again. If there is an available update, start it and install it. Again, wait 4 hours to check the next time.
Some of this settings could be configurated different, I posted the default values of the avast4.ini file. The updates are incremental.
You can schedule an update [check] in the scheduler (in avast! Professional) as well… but there shouldn’t be a need to do that; I mean, are the update really that bad?
