Is there a way to turn off Avast! completely? (Temporarily, as during a Windows 7 update?) Thanks!
you mean like right click avast tray icon and disable shields ?
but why do that for a windows update ?
The best way is to disable avast self defence in the troubleshooting tab in settings and then ending the process ‘avast UI’ using task manager. This completely stops all interference caused. but this isn’t recomended during updates.
That is definitely not true (actually, completely wrong).
Stopping all the shields (e.g. from the try icon context menu) should be exactly what you are looking for (though yes, it’s probably not a good idea anyway).
Whilst it shouldn’t be an issue, stopping the Behavior Shield would probably be the safest option as that would leave the other shields to protect you whilst you are on line.
I believe that the Behavior Shield is the one which would have the greatest interaction with windows update, given it is looking for “unauthorised system changes.” So you could try stopping that for a period long enough to cover the windows update duration or until the next reboot.
