Been using Avast free version for years now. I’m a techie, and all I need is an anti-virus program, that’s it. I know Avast tries to throw a million and one other unnecessary things in your face for all kinds of “protection”, and mislead the individual into even thinking some things are currently a concern when they aren’t at all.
Since I don’t care for any of that stuff, I shut off the notifications for the spam, so that only the anti-virus itself would run, and it wouldn’t try to throw all the extra trash in my face. But since the last update, now I’m back to getting the deceptive advertising of every single little thing they can try to sell me again. Looking through the settings, I don’t see a way to turn it off now either.
Did they remove the ability to stop getting spammed about their other products? If it still exists, where can I find the setting to turn it off again?
Appreciate you trying to help, but no, since the update, despite having all those off like I always have, they still give me all these bs ads now when I do a scan
It’s also being VERY intrusive into other things now. Like It’s scanning my network without me asking it to! Notifies me that I “only have a basic firewall”, which I know very well is ALL that I need, but then tries to get me to install something they have with that deceptive marketing.
It says “could not detect the type of network you are currently connected to…” Well good, because why the f*ck is an ANTI-VIRUS program trying to spy on what network I’m connected to currently???
Gives me other bs notifications about things I don’t need, like “turn on data execution prevention”, “notifications could be visible while you’re away from your PC”, none of which matter to me at all, but I can no longer disable these spam notifications
And then “11 advanced issues found”, which has me about ready to drop this anti-virus and go somewhere else. BS like “your banking credentials are at risk” and 10 other bs spam scams from them. It seems like they’ve gone over to the darkside unfortunately. Bunch of scams to get people to buy things they don’t need, acting like things are “vulnerable” and “being exposed!” on multiple “advanced issues”
This is some really crooked crap they’re doing with this spamming. I think I’m just done here
Same here. I must have seen and dismissed the VPM ad now 100 times. I will soon have to find another product although I am actually quite happy but I cant be bothered.
