Is this a keylogger?

Hello all. I have Avast Free. And I have a little program named SpyDetect that’s giving me the following message when I examine my PC: “There were processes detected that might be recording your keystrokes: C:\ProgramFiles\AVAST Software\Avast\x86\aswhook.dll”.

To sum it up: Am I being spied on? - Probably Yes. ------------- Am I being monitored? - Probably not.

The result was Probably not to both before Avast latest update.

I’m not sure if that even makes any sense, but I wish you, Avast experts, could help me understand what’s going on. Many thanks.

Given that this is an Avast dll, I would say not

Also this highlighted part is only saying ‘might’ and it is in the avast program folder X86 sub-folder.

“There were processes detected that might be recording your keystrokes: C:\ProgramFiles\AVAST Software\Avast\x86\aswhook.dll”.
See https://www.file.net/process/aswhook.dll.html

This I believe (though can’t say for certain) is used in the same way as the one in the main Avast folder which is digitally signed.

Now until now I had never heard of the SpyDetect program, so I have no idea of its worth, but this isn’t uncommon seeing a security application when scanning another security application as being somehow suspicious.

Thanks David. I guess it must be a false positive then. It really had me wondering, precisely because it was (is) an Avast file…

You’re welcome.
