Is this any good?

I am trying out a free product called Spyware Terminator. So far I think it is ok. I want to know what you guys think of it.

Justin, sorry, never tested.
Did you check if this is a trustable spyware?
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Spyware Terminator invender.nl no trial version available [A: 2-26-05 / U: 2-26-05]

I checked that but I don’t understand why it says no trial available because it is freeware. Maybe it is a different company.

What follows is the main list of "rogue/suspect" anti-spyware applications, none of which can be recommended for anti-spyware protection.

Dates: Significant dates are listed in the format MM-DD-YY. A: date that entry for application was added to list; U: date that application was last checked/tested or entry was last significantly modified/updated.

Personally I wouldn’t worry that much about the comment, being there would be good enough for me.
If it isn’t in the Trusted list, that is more than good enough for me as there are plenty of good freeware anti-spyware tools out there.

The closest program I found was:

Spyware X-terminator
http://www.stompsoft.com/spyx/

For a good free anti-spyware program with resident protection I recommend Microsoft Antispyware Beta, but I don’t want everyone using it 'cause if everyone did hackers & malware thugs would concentrate their attacks against it.

I believe avast! & ZoneAlarm are the best in their trade, but I’m glad people are using a variety of others to keep the thugs busy.

It is good you’re trying out new programs.

I hope I’m breaking rules using “thugs”.

Thug From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Thug - derived from Thuggee. Generally taken to mean a ruffian, a miscreant, a person who behaves in an aggressive manner towards others.

Malware makers fit this description as they are aggressive towards our computers.

the website home page is www.spywareterminator,com

The only weblink that contains malware program is the SPYWARETERMINATOR .com (no spaces)

The caps on the link above confuses me with the one you posted Justin, however be extra cautious.

Domain name Urls aren’t usually case sensitive (doesn’t include sub domains), caps, lower or mixed case. However, web pages are likely to be case sensitive depending on what type of server they are on Unix based or Windows based servers.

 Justin1278 :

Info from "Help" on the spywareterminator site shows :
     "Crawler ; 999 Yamato Rd #100 ; Boca Raton, FL "
Even more important is this website is listed as a possible
source of the Coolwebsearch spyware by a highly credible
anti-malware person named "WebHelper"; see :

i don’t think this program is bad. I have used multiple online scanners and none of them have detected it as spyware. It is also posted on Download.com and they only have spyware free downloads supposedly.

Because many on-line scanners, just like AVs on your computer are more devoted to anti-virus issues and not so much Adware or Spyware.

I don’t know to what level download.com go to test this assumption, but I would tend to go with spywarewarrior.com which specialises in this subject.

However, your computer your choice, we have made our comments that you asked for, now you have to decide.

when i ment online scanners i ment onest that specialized in spyware like the trend micro online spyware scanner or the webroot scanner. But you are right I asked for your comments and got them thanks everyone who gave me their opinion.

Hi justin,

If you stick with Ad-aware SE Personal and Spybot - S & D with Teatimer, you can’t go wrong. I have used both for many years with success … and both are free! They both work well with Avast.

Just my 2 cents worth on the subject.

ok i got rid of spyware terminator. Why risk it when u can use a perfectly good known free tool?

 Hi Justin :

I think you made a good choice in removing "Spyware
Terminator" from your computer; after my previous
post, I send a Private Message to "webhelper" on
another forum & got the following :

"I can only say that their site smaks of some of the newer scams. their whois data shows only Unlisted-Whois.com Protection Service.

The only thng close to knowing who they are is the crawler llc in Florida
http://www.sunbiz.org/scripts/cordet.exe?a...&r4=CRAWLER&r5=

I would be leary of anyone who hides who they are and try to sell a product.

Thanks Spirit Songs for your info. I just have one problem with the spybot tea timer. When it alerts me of something it is not clear meaning it does not show me all of the options. I think it is a graphic problem. This happened on my old laptop and on my new one. The new one has an ATI graphics chip.

Maybe it’s just the resolution… your could be not compatible with the TeaTime GUI.
Try to down the resolution to 640 x 640 or 800 x 600 pixels.

I tried it and it did not work.

{hopefully i not get killed for bump :slight_smile: }

They claim major company changes and getting rid of untrusty partners etc. http://www.crawler.com/news.aspx?id=1380

also ST seems to be very popular on softpedia (100% clean award same got also Avast!) http://www.softpedia.com/progClean/Spyware-Terminator-Clean-31684.html

and it gets also popular at download.com

there are ‘rumours’ about ST being delisted from RSWL …

i checked the apz … its small, fast, works well, reminds on MS Antispyware beta 1 by design …

tested support service … within 3 days You get QA human answer and within 5 days program is updated …

also this application was able detect some spyware only with MS AS / Defender … Spybot / Ad-Aware failed to know it at time of test …

they just must live with the “mark” of bad past connections as product itself seems to be well done …

if You want investigate, tear it apart here is latest build http://www.spywareterminator.com/dnl/files/1/SpywareTerminator.exe
