Is this false positive?

I tried to download file and avast home edition detects it as a virus.

Is this false positive?

Yes this does seem to be a FP this is at the bottom of the Terms of Use from the Foundstone site

** NOTE: Some Anti-virus packages may falsely report this product as a keylogger/trojan application. Please upgrade to the latest anti-virus definitions as this has been corrected by most vendors.**

Welcome to the forum
Normally avast shouldn’t block any website ???
Could you give us a HijackThis Log ?

Thanks

Al968

The Foundstone web site isn’t being blocked.
You get a virus warning when you try and download this file

Your best bet would be to notify the people at Alwil about this FP and read the post that
al968 supplied a link to.

guys when i clicked on that link and tried to check it out it turned out to be a virus which must have killed my XP
i use a dual boot system with XP and linux (Ubuntu Dapper Drake) installed and now that i don’t have an AV program in the linux os and i tried to download that file from the linux OS,the system hung up and when i restarted, the xp kept saying,
Windows xp did not start normally the last time, what do you want to do?
START In safe mode,
safe mode with networking,
safe mode with command prompt

           last known good configuration
           start windows normally

but whenever i choose any option,
it restarts and comes back to the grub loader, asking which OS i want to start.
PLEASE HELP :-[

Overinstallation can solve the problem and you won’t lose your programs, settings, data, files, etc.
Just choose ‘Repair’ installation of Windows and install ‘over’ the old installation.

You’ll have to correct the Grub loader after reinstalling Windows.

can you please tell me how to do that?
i have no idea,
and if you cant help then please can you refer me to somebody who can
any help would be much appreciated
thanks!

Doing what?

  1. Overinstallation of Windows is described in that links.
  2. Repair the Grub loader on the mbr (master boot record) is done by booting with the Linux CD and re-installing the OS or repairing it. I think Ubuntu has an advanced way of installation (maybe F6 at boot time and choosing Advanced instead of Normal installation way).
Or Google… How to restore GRUB menu after Windows installation: Use Super Grub Disk More info on how to use it here .

yeah thanks for that and i will get back after editing the GRUB loader after the reinstall
