In my opinion, only if Microsoft follow the development of the tools and add them into Windows core.
If not, we’ll lose a free option for them ![]()
that is good news- better than all the bad news that has happened lately in the world around us ;D
have a good one polonus, tech, & the avast! world :o
I think I will reserve my judgement and see what happens over the mext few weeks and months. The sysinternals.com site is still up but it has a Sponsered by Winternal Logo; interestig reading on Mark’s blog on the sysinternals home page.
Check out Mark's most recent blog post: On My Way to Microsoft! July 18 Microsoft Acquires Winternals and Sysinternals and Mark and Bryce are on their way to Microsoft! - http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/2006/07/on-my-way-to-microsoft.html
Damn, this could mean the end of Power Defragmenter ![]()
God I hope not.
And ProcessExplorer, and FileMon, and RegMon, and TCPView :‘( :’(
Maybe they are planning to integrate it within Vista? – that would be good.
On one hand we could loose some great free programs from Sysinternals but on the other hand Microsoft is getting 2 new security experts/programmers and that isn’t really bad news ![]()
P.S: I hope Rejzor will be able to continue to work on Power Defragmenter, it’s a good little app …
I hope Rejzor will be able to continue to work on Power Defragmenter, it's a good little app ....Maybe MS will make Rejzor an offer that he can't refuse for his program since it sure beats the one Microsoft provides..... :)
Do you realy think so? The same occurred with a lot of software globalizations… the free (best) looses to the paid (old and worse) version
>:(
Holy cow is what I thought when I read my email just now :o Then the name of this thread popped into my head , mental note to read it sometime.
eWeek News
" Winternals founders Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell have been well-known authors and commentators on Windows issues for many years. Russinovich will join Microsoft as a Technical Fellow in the Platforms and Services Division. Cogswell will join the Windows Component Platform Team as a Software Architect. The two will work from Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Wash."
Microsoft Buys Tools Vendor Winternals
Better update all the freeware @ sysinternals , or whatever they are calling themselves .
contig (power defragmenter)
Autoruns
ProcessExplorer
PageDefrag
Regmon
RootKitRevealer
TcpView
Gee I seem to use a lot of their stuff; I’m sure there’s something I haven’t listed.
Hopefully this is “Good News” , depends on whether " Mark and Bruce " will just be swallowed up into the infrastructure of madness we call Microsoft and newtered , nulled . ???
M$ : My favourite Software vendor :![]()
this can be Good news for XP SP3 and of course Vista … maybe there is hope for MS ![]()
Personally I think this is not good news at all. The whole appeal of third party applications is that they allow users to do Windows their own way. They give us optons Microsoft didn’t think of or thought we couldn’t handle.
I’m not a Microsoft basher but I fear if Sysintenals’ offerings are incorporated into any version of Windows they will be emasculated shells of once useful programs.
Thanks for the information Polonus. ;D
Just in case, I have downloaded all the Sysinternal freebies mentioned on this thread. Are there any others recommended before they disappear? :-\

I’ve sent a mail regarding status of Sysinternals tools. I hope i’ll get reply soon.
