Decided to go the free route and not update my Nod32 (which I was happy with for years and still ran the old 3.x version for minimal footprint and resource use). Seems like Avast and AVG are the go-to’s for free protection. Running into a strange issue though. Sometimes my Thunderbird will no longer be able to connect to the server. Just sits there ‘Obtaining Server Capabilities’. I’ve traced the issue to Avast as it always immediately connects if I disable Avast. But it only happens sporadically (so far) and not often. I can turn Avast back on immediately and Thunderbird works fine.
I’m using IMAP for e-mail (several accounts). No encryption turned on. Still on version 3.1.20 of Thunderbird.
I though all my accounts had encryption turned off by after double checking I found one that was on. It is odd though that having encryption on wouldn’t just break it for every message? Anyway, I’m going to assume that is the fix.
Your problem is different to that of the OP, so posting in multiple unrelated topics only confuses the issue and duplicates effort for those trying to help.
