Issues with updated version

I recently kept getting notifications from Avast saying an updated version was available, so I installed it. But after that, things got complicated.
It seems the updated version was not recognized by my school’s network, so I wasn’t allowed to log in to the internet “without an antivirus.” The school has their own antivirus (Sophos), and it directed me to that download. I downloaded it, and my computer began freezing. After a huge battle involving a couple system restores and uninstalled and reinstalled programs, the school’s antivirus was gone, but problems still occurred and the computer continued to freeze. I thought maybe it was a virus, so I went into safe mode and did full scans with Avast and Malwarebytes. Neither of them found anything. I uninstalled Avast, and so far so good. I’m doing another scan with a very reliable online scanner (ESET), and it’s finding nothing so far.
Am I the only one this is happening to? I’d love to reinstall Avast, but only if it will stop causing so many headaches…
I don’t think it’s just Avast conflicting with other antiviruses, since, while I do have two other programs (Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D), they don’t do any background work and have always been compatible. They only do scans and updates manually. And the Sophos was gone while the issues continued.
If it is Avast and not just my silly computer, please look into the issue and fix it so I can continue to use your program.
Thank you for your help~

What OS are you using? Any other security software you have now or “ever” had? If uninstalled how was it uninstalled?
Did you use http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility? If possible try uninstalling in “safe mode” and disconnect from the internet while uninstalling. Also clean up any leftovers with CCleaner http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Just a suggestion get rid of SpyBot S&D and use Super Anti-Spyware instead. SpyBot is pretty much a waste of good HDD space.

You will find a list of uninstallers from http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ :slight_smile:

@Para-Noid:
I use Windows 7, and apart from Spybot and Malwarebytes, I used to have Kaspersky (Crapspersky really) but I uninstalled it with their uninstalling tool months ago before installing Avast, and all had been okay. The problems just started after I updated Avast. I now have removed Avast from my system, and everything’s back to normal, no crashes or freezing. I replaced it with Microsoft Security Essentials for now (since the school network recognizes it and I need a “recognizable” antivirus for it to let me on the internet) but I’ve heard it’s not that great, so I do hope I can reinstall Avast soon.
I’ll look into that Super Anti-Spyware and CCleaner, thanks~

Goering.

Since your comp is working well right now, take the opportunity to use the site with the uninstall utilities given to you by Para-Noid and remove any Kaspersky’s remains. Do the same for Sophos. Also since you are now running MSE use aswclear and remove any version of Avast! you ever had in your comp. Bigin with v.7 and then v.6 with a reboot after each uninstall. Go to your school and find out why Avast! is not detected as an AV. If they tell you, it should be detected, unsinstall MSE with its tool and reinstall Avast! again.

Malwarebytes’ do not conflict with Avast! and if you still want to have SpyBot S&D do not activate Tea Timer.
