It Keeps Happening with Trend Micro

Can anyone help me? I’ve run Trend Micro online 3 times now, once before I reported this and I’m still confused. Every time I run the online virus scan at Trend Micro, Avast ALWAYS finds 2 Trojans (general) in it’s Resident Scan, during the online scan by Trend Micro. The Trojans ALWAYS show up in a temp file. I have deleted all my temp files, emptied recycle bin. I do another Trend Micro scan and again, 2 more trojans found in a temp file, always a different file name, always in Temp. Avast scan never finds anything just prior to running the online Trend Micro online scan.

Could some please try to run the online Trend Micro scan and see if this Trend Micro online scan forces a Trojan out for Avast to find in their Resident Scan? Please? I sure am confused to the max!!

Thanks,
katy

what’s the name of these trojan files?

What OS are you using i.e. Win XP?

I have just run both the ActiveX (http://housecall.trendmicro.com) and Java (http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/products/housecall_launch.php) versions of Trend’s Housecall with avast running and avast didn’t find trojans of any sort. I am using the 4.6.586 (beta) version of avast with the latest database.

Try another online scan from another antivirus vendor and see if avast still picks up these trojans.

Bitdefender: http://www.bitdefender.com/scan
Norton: http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym

The Trojan file names are Win32: Trojan-gen. {Other}. There are two of them and I use WinXP with SP2.

What is the filename and location of the infected files?
example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?

The file name always begins with V* (i.e. V494FHa01412, V364FHa02820, etc.), both trojans are always found in F:\DOCUME~1\katy\LOCALS~1\Temp(file name).

Each scan results in (2) trojans always Win32:Trojan-gen.{Other} .

Today I did online scans at Symantec and Bitdefender with NO reaction from Avast at all. All 3 sites (Symantec, Trend Micro and Bitdefender) showed no viruses found; Avast only alerts when using Trend Micro.

Print is attached…I have used both my bookmark for TrendMicro Housecall AND via a link in Google, using IE 6.0 on WinXP.

If you still have it in your Temp folder, you could also check it out at Jotti’s multi AV engine file scan see link below. This is strange as I have never had this happen if I used Trend’s housecall.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive.

The Temp file location was where it was located by Avast, I chose to put it in the Avast virus chest. Would anyone happen to know the path to the Virus Chest? Thanks everyone!

Why not simply open the chest from within Avast?
Start Avast > menu > virus chest

And the path is:
\program files\alwil software\avast4\data\chest

What exact version of Avast are you using and what vps?

Thanks for the path. I do open the Chest in Avast but could only find the ‘path of origin’ even in File properties. My version of Avast is Version 4.5 Home Edition, Build Nov. 2004 (4.5.561). VPS version is complilation dated 2/05/05 and 0505-2 file version.
