I've recently un-installed Avast4 and replaced with Avast5

I’ve recently un-installed Avast4 and replaced with Avast5. When starting Outlook I’m getting the message “the add-in ashoutXt.dll could not be installed or loaded” Does someone know how to configure Outlook so it does not attempt to load a file that is no longer there?

Close Outlook and then I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
  7. Check and post the results.

I found the following solution EASIER…

Disable Avast 4 plugin

Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items.
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.

Still dunno what Digital River are doing with my data though

Hello,

I have /has this problem too.

At my account/login Avast 4.x where installed and I try to update this version to 5.0.545.
With some troubles the result was OK.
But at another account/login ( at the same computer) we receive the same message.
After trying the suggestions, the problem wasn’t solved.
Then I try the repair option in the reinstall setup. (with the account that giving trouble)
This solve the problem.

I un-installed Avast 5 in safe mode and restarted but still can’t open Outlook. No errors just won’t open.
