java runtime problem w/ latest avast home ver.

see screenshot: http://xs215.xs.to/xs215/07210/ava2.PNG

JRE can’t run. System installed with MS VM & JRE 1.6.0, default use JRE in IE7.

A few hours ago no this error, it happens after install Avast4, so I think maybe it causes this.

I can only say that all those I support use JRE 1.6.0 and I am failry sure that many hundreds of thousands (possibly millions) of avast users do too without any problems.

I think the error message itself may contain some indication.

Which antivirus product where you using before you installed avast and did you uninstall the previous product? If so, then please tell us how you uninstalled it.

confirmed.
i can reproduce…

and IE7 pops up an error message when i closed the browser.
pfft.

i can’t access my personal internet banking site via IE7.
i can however, access it using Opera without any problems at all.
luckily. =]

windows xp pro sp2
Sun Java Runtime Environment version 1.6
IE7 / Opera 9.21

Does it help if you stop avast! resident protection completely? (temporarily)

i can’t find a way to exit avast completely (i.e. remove from windows processes).
so what i did was “stop on-access protection”.

no luck. same Java error.

and when i closed IE7, i receive a new form of error message.

it (Java) still works as per normal on my Opera browser.

 To Sert :

Should NOT have BOTH Microsoft's Virtual Machine AND Sun's
JRE running on the same computer; would be wise to completely
  uninstall the MS VM .

Fully agree.

I know that second pic were it says ‘read’ at the end - that’s usually a problem with one of the IE Add-Ons (often one of Adobe)

Try to start IE with a right click on the IE Symbol and use ‘start without Add-Ons’ and look if the problems are gone.
