JS.ScriptXE-inf[Trj], Skype related?

Avast! Software updater told me to update a few programs, one being VLC. I opened VLC directly and it told me to download the update however it cancelled and I was prompted for a virus alert which was blocked by Avast!. It got me paranoid and did a boot-time scan. It did pick something up, JS.ScriptXE-inf[Trj]. So I have the malwarebytes and OTL logs but something else bugged me, it existed quite some time ago so I tracked my chrome history to the exact date and noticed it was a minute off when that webpage that skype automatically opened as soon as I booted it up about 20 days ago.

I have no idea what possessed me not to scan my computer as soon as skype did that but yeah, I was redirected to some windowsdefender page which didn’t even load. But the timing of the page itself and the virus’s modification date makes me feel it’s the cause, seems subsequent searches at the time then was trying to look into it but didn’t get very far.

So along with the logs I have two questions

  1. Since the VLC program itself downloaded the update, is this a false positive or is something wrong with VLC at the moment?
  2. Is this Skype’s fault persay? What I did vaguely gather is it might be related to the ads that Skype Runs which gave me this thing.
  3. Now that avast found this, is there anything else I need to do? Both with this skype and vlc issue? Do I delete the virus in the chest?

and no aswMBR.exe log since I have Windows 8. Thank you for your time.

JS.ScriptXE-inf[Trj]
malicious java script from a website you have wisited......

A while back some of the Skype adverts were going to a download page for that malware. Avast was blocking it.

I can see nothing of concern on the system so I would recommend that you empty your temporary files

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

[*] Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
[*]It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
[*]Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
[*]Once it’s finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

I probably should have known even if the page itself didn’t load something was probably up.

Alright I ran TFC and rebooted.

Are you noticing anything weird or does it seem to run OK

Nothing weird here, thanks!

Run Delfix to remove the tools

Download and run Delfix
