No, I don’t want mobile security, already had it.
No, I don’t want you to analyze my browser plugins, when you avast plugin is unwantedware so don’t install it.
No, I don’t want you to free disk space.
No, I don’t want to buy your grime fighter.
No, I don’t want to upgrade to premium version, why should I pay yearly?
No, don’t scan my computer for outdated software.
No, I don’t need your VPN, already have one. nagging me won’t make a good difference.
Avast is now gradually became more and more like an adware and bloatware. the popups increased rapidly, the bloat increased, yes we know “it is free, asswipe” but with this attitude and with competition we can just move on to another AV. I turned off several of the tools like software updater and browser cleaner. but somehow after upgrading avast, software updater activated itself even though it is still off from setting. I thought maybe that’s the first time. then after a restart, same thing, browser cleaner analyzing my plugins.
I’m not seeking a how to, I just want to give a feedback, you need to reconsider the direction you’ve taken in the past year. nagging users and showing popups won’t make people buy your product. turning anti-virus into an adware would do the opposite turn people away. I don’t mind paying one time fee (maybe) to turn off all this junk and get a lightweight anti-virus. maybe you could offer such a version for a fee. the points sound like a good way to get us to try the premium, the other ads are just annoying and make no difference. acting like a virus is not going to help.
Meanwhile I’ll be looking for alternative. a software that’s lightweight. maybe i’ll be back to AVG which I switched from long ago for being heavy at the time.
Same here to much nagg. Up to the point where I start to use game mod, avast definitely should rethink this type of approach, because right now indeed start to become very annoying >:(
Problem being in silent/gaming mode there doesn’t appear to be ‘any’ alerts as was previously thought and mentioned by someone from avast.
Another topic mentioned that there were no alerts in silent mode and was contrary to what I believed was the action in silent mode. The user didn’t get an alert, so I tested this using the eicar.com test file and there was no alert when I copied from an excluded folder into one not excluded. I went a step further and executed the eicar.com file and notepad opened, then quickly closed. Looking in the avast chest, I found the eicar.com file.
This is not good, avast was meant to alert in silent mode, only interactive or other popups are meant to be suppressed.
@Enoughisenough Look at the pictures - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=175149.0 @MrRAlan I’ve tried Panda and Avast is better, trust me. Bitdefender Free has old software engine (confirmed by staff from live chat). @DavidR Still waiting for support.
I can try using any other antivirus, but I’m always back on Avast. I don’t know why.
I had been using free version of avast for many months now. I have not got a single ad till date. Nothing, no popups or messages whatsoever. I am just enjoying it just like the premium version. Windows firewall does the trick. If you have different firewall program, you can just do well taming avast with it.
And since it is free version and avast chose to offer you with features, it also offers you to opt out of those during installation. Spend few minutes configuring the avast during and after installation. It helps in the long run.
During my first year of using Avast free, the advertising popups were pretty much gone during the last 6 months. When I re-registered last month, the popups came back with a vengeance. There were daily ads for the first couple of weeks, now a month and half later, ads are down to one every three days or so. Will see if the trend continues, and ads lessen even more.
What bothers me is that the new version does not allow us to disable the store tab. I have a PAID F***ing subscription. I don’t want to see the damn store tab.
I swear. Once my subscription expires, I don’t see myself renewing it. Between the resource hog to this… it is insane.
Some time ago there used to be an option not to be shown the Store even in the free version and I took advantage of that, but since avast 2015 that seemed to disappear.
But the fact the Store tab is there, I don’t live in the UI and I just ignore it.
