First, excuse the punucation. Im tired and trying to type fast.
Okay, let me first say right now i do not have a virus. I am just not getting around to addressing the problem.
Let me say i love everything about avast and has saved me from downloading viruses in the first place with the on access scanner.
BUT, whenever it finds a virus it asks me what i want to do with the virus and i usually click the one to quarrentine it (or wutever they call it). But which every choice i choose it does this.
I click one and it goes down and i think to myself it did everything and got rid of it. Then it asks me again about the same virus! and again, again, again. This will go on for days sometimes it will pop up within a few seconds and then waits a few hours before asking me again.
Basically, im tired of going through this everytime a virus is found.
hi and welcome joshua,
can i suggest to you that you perhaps look a little closer at the warning you are getting as a problem caused by something else and maybe when that is fixed Avast! will stop telling you its finding probems.
Firstly run a boot time scan(open Avast /settings/shedule btime scan) to see if avast can find the problem . then depending on wether its a system file or not delete or send to chest .
If nothing is found then (google) search out a program called hyjack this and generate a logfile and post it back here and let us see what going on
In Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” as soon as the first virus warning appears, and click on “No action” button. This way, nothing will be done and you will be presented the results at the end (and you can perform actions from there).
I would have thought that putting the infected file inio the Virus Chest / (Quarantine) would be sufficient .
Buying the professional version is a great idea, but as a real time /’ NOW’ solution , unless I’m missing something, the purpose of Avast! home is to isolate the infected files, and then deal with them after deciding they aren’t a false positive.I don’t understand this action of constant alerts as being a natural behaviour of Avast! . ???
A HiJackThis log would be useful. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
Some helpful information here joshuah2003
This sort of problem can be caused by a rootkit virus which avast! can detect but not remove. (In common with other AV’s, at least at the last time I checked- I know some are working on the problem, and some may even have fixed the problem, at least for some rootkits.)
Anyway, the name and location of the file would be very helpful.
You could also try a scan with Ewido, which can remove some malware that avast! can’t.
And also with UnHackMe and F-Secure’s Blacklight to check for rootkits.
Natural? avast! behavior is like it is: Home version has limited/shorther features…
But, it shouldn’t be natural having that many warnings unless the system is deeply infected and compromissed
Then stop treating the symptom and start treating the disease, why you getting so many viruses.
Ensure your OS is fully up to date.
Ensure your browser/s is/are fully up to date.
Ensure you have a firewall and it too is fully up to date.
Don’t visit dodgy web sites and offers that are too good to be true often are.
Personally I don’t like to use a automated mode, because I want to know what is going on with my system. If someone is getting so many warnings of virus infection, infected emails, etc. that they become intrusive, then it is time to review their security practice - filter emails at source, delete from server rather than download them, sites they visit, etc.
Leave the file in the chest for a week or two (it can do no harm from there) to ensure no adverse effect from being moved to the chest. Then scan the file again in the chest to ensure it is still detected as infected and if so delete it from the chest.
