i have just re-formatted my harddrive and am in the processes of installing stuff (thats the technical name for it ) back on … i just installed avast 4.7 home edition and it is stopping me from installing some files needed to run some programs … these files were used on my computer before and they were ok …is there anyway of putting these files in a safe list or something ??
the files are kewlbuttons.ocx and fusionbutonz .ocx
i am running a celeron cpu 2.8 ghz
windows xp service pac 2
i am as thick as two short planks when it comes to computers
For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…
For the other providers (on-demmand scanning):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…
You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be carefull, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.
What do you mean stopping you from installing some programs ?
What errors or warnings are you getting ?
avast scans and alerts, it doesn’t block or stop you installing stuff (sorry about using technical terms ;D) unless it is infected and then it will give an audible alarm and pop-up a visual alert. Did avast do this ?
i get a message …bells and whistles saying trojan found
file name kewlbutonz
malware name WIN32 cpukiller
this file has been around for ages and is needed to run some programs …it has to go in regestry …i think it had gone on the problem list because same files are used in chat booters and crackers …but the same file was taken off my computer saved on a disc and then when i tried to reinstall it i get stopped .
Please, send an email with the file (false positive or infected) to: virus@avast.com
You can zip and password the files… Inform a link to this thread and the password used.
You can add the files to Chest and, from there, resend to Alwil for analysis.
Thanks.
Can you test it on-line? To be sure, the better will be test the file against on-line scanners.
