KeyGen.exe is infected by Win32:MiniMal {Trj}

I recently installed Avast on my laptop and ran a boot scan as advised. The following message was displayed:

D:\Docs\Old-Colorado\FRSbackup\Full1\KeyGen.zip>KenGen.exe is infected by Win32:MiniMal [Trj]

Blue screen was frozen and I was unable to select any of the options given i.e. Fix, Move to Chest, Delete etc. I was also unable to turn off machine and had to wait for the battery to run down. I was then able to restart with no obvious problems. Can you please advise what steps I need to take to rectify the matter.

Thank you

Colette

do you know this program?

follow instructions here https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
attach Malwarebytes and Farbar Recovery Scan tool logs

It is an old file that was created back in 2007 - it may have been transferred from a previous laptop - but has not been used for a long time.

seems to be a keygen for running cracked software … are you running cracked software?

D:\Docs\Old-Colorado\FRSbackup\Full1\KeyGen.zip>KenGen.exe
browse your way to the keygen.zip ... right click it and select delete, then empty your recycle bin

those nice guys that give away these free keygens usually bundle those program with another free program that they dont tell you about :wink:

the requested logs will show if you have any infections.

Thanks for your help. I’ll try that.
