killCMOS

i think that the so called “Trojan horse” Killcmos -J, should be removed from the database.

it is a downloadable designed to reset your cmos from a dos prompt
it works by adding a bit to the end of the cmos, thereby corrupting it and causing the bios to reset all setting to default

this is a false positive

Are you sure? With the behavior you have described?
Maybe a program that could have double effect: one good (intended) and other like a trojan…

Anyway, to know if a file is a false positive, please submit it to VirusTotal and let us know the result. If it is indeed a false positive, send it in a password protected zip to virus@avast.com Please, mention in the body of the message why you think it is a false positive and the password used.

Adding a bit to the end of the cmos would mean that the cmos suddenly becomes one bit larger
That is impossible since the size of the bios is hardware limited.
You can not make hardware larger by adding software to it.
I don’t know where you got the information from, but it is definatly not correct.
If you corrupt a bios, you would be very lucky if you can boot your system at all.

And why using a util?
Any motherboard today already give you the option to reset the cmos to default settings using a cmos jumper or simulair.

some options in bioses cant be reset by just removing and reinstalling the battery, such as the passwords

But as eddy said most motherboards have a jumper you can use to reset it to factory settings
