Every time I try to go to Yahoo.com the avast online scanner pops up with the following info (I’ve listed two from two different tries to get to the site):
avast! [MUSIC-MAN]: File “http://www.yahoo.com/\unp49417237” is infected by “VBS:Malware-gen” virus.
“Resident protection (Web Shield)” task used
Version of current VPS file is 080622-0, 06/22/2008
AND
avast! [MUSIC-MAN]: File “http://www.yahoo.com/\unp19895366” is infected by “VBS:Malware-gen” virus.
“Resident protection (Web Shield)” task used
Version of current VPS file is 080622-0, 06/22/2008
The on-line scanner offers to abort the connection which I have done twice.
Note that the file name is different in each case.
I’m thinking this is a false positive? The VPS file was updated as soon as I booted up my PC and before I tried to get to Yahoo. So maybe this is an issue with the new VPS file?
Temporarily you can get into parts of Yahoo by prefacing the address as follows: for news, it’s http://www.news.yahoo.com, for groups, substitute groups for the word news, etc. Avast lets that go through - BUT if you’re on a Yahoo page and click back on Yahoo Home, you’ll get that false positive screen again.
