laptop might be infected after contacting 'GuruAid' ?

So today my mother wanted to renew her Avast account so she called up a company called ‘GuruAid’ (the first result on Google search when you search for ‘Avast contact’).

She got through to someone and they convinced her to let them remotely control her computer. I only found out later that the phone number she called wasn’t an official Avast phone number.

They told her to run a number of different programs from a GuruAid website (I’m not sure if anything was actually installed) , and I’m worried there could still be some malware/viruses on her pc. Is there a way to find out for certain if any malicious software has been installed?

Has anyone else had problems with this ‘GuruAid’ company and had malware installed on their pc? I’ve read online and a lot of people say it’s a scam. I’m just hoping I don’t have to do a complete reinstall of the operating system.

Notwithstanding the help provided, please look at how the victim arrived @ guruAid below:

A picture is worth a thousand words, and so is an adblocker in your browser. I don’t think the victim has one installed so she saw what she saw. You’ll need to turn off your adblocker to see the same thing she did.

Hope this helps all who are not running an ad blocker in their browser. You can’t click on what you can’t see.
