Laptop stuck in Grimefighter in start up

I am working on repairing my laptop which has a broken display so it hasn’t been in use for the past 8 months. When I try to boot the laptop the grimefighter loads and sedates my laptop, how can I get the laptop started without having Grimefighter sedate it so I can update my Avast program to the new Cleanup? Any help would be great…

Grimefighter has been gone for about 2(!) years and is not supported anymore.

Get it over and done with and perform a fresh installation of the OS.
