latest update causing pb with Sygate?

I got the update yesterday and when turned on the pc this morning, Avast wouldn’t start. I thought it might be a license key pb like it has happened before, so I got a new key. I could then start avast manually but it stopped after a few minutes. Then the pc slowsdown extremely so I have to reboot.
When I double-click the icon it says: “the AAVM sub system has detedted an RPC error”. In my “Services and applications” both Avast!antivirus and RPC were set on automatic.
I use Sygate firewall (of course I “allowed” Avast) on a XP pro sp1. Anybody has an idea?

RPC error is generally related to other antivirus present or, at least, firewall blocking. RPC error may also be because of avast! services being stopped.

Anyway, RPC error is most likely correct by this procedure:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the pop up window (Repair).

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

 I use Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6 with Avast Home Edition
and based on the recommendation of Jarmo P & a “Super
Moderator” on the Sygate Support forums, I have
“unchecked” “Act As Server” setting on all 5 Avast items
under Sygate “Application>Advanced” setting; have you
done likewise ?

Well, at least his identity is shown 8)

Edited: see his explanations here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=16155.msg136712#msg136712

Maybe it will be better to check in that forum as the Sygate behavior could be different of other firewall, I mean, on what is ‘act as a server’.
Maybe other users of Sygate can give you a clue.
All your avast functions are running well? I mean, can you update, receive and send scanned emails…?

 All of Avast “functions” are working fine having unchecked
“Act As Server” on all 5 Avast items in Sygate’s “Advanced”
Menu . I do have XP SP1 if that is important to know .

So, as far I could see, it’s ok. It’s like in ZoneAlarm settings. 8)

“I have “unchecked” “Act As Server” setting on all 5 Avast items

I’m trying that, but why do I have only 4 Avast items in that list (antivirus, email scanner, service gui, web scanner)? What is the one you have that I don’t?
The latest Avast update has to be connected to the problem, it happened right after so it can’t be just a coincidence.

unchecking didn’t work
unistall/repairing didn’t work
So I uninstalled reinstalled. Hope this is the end of the story. Still it would’ve been interesting to know what went wrong after that update.

 Within Sygate’s “Advanced” Setting is :
