Less rights does not equal more security

“Less rights does not mean more security”

With Vista a larger user community for the first time experienced how it is to operate with less rights.
The biggest advantage is that software cannot change the underlying kernel and system files, so malware can do less harm. Developers are therefore urged to develop applications that work without the full rights, a good example is GoogleChrome, that users can install with a Limited User Account.
This will mean that these so-called LUA-users will be able to install more and more possibly unauthorized programs, so the amount of installed malware will increase.

At the moment dropping your rights helps against some sorts of malware (BHO’s en rootkits bijv.) but worms like NetSky and MyDoom are not hindered one bit (through 2 trivial adaptations). So user convenience also means malcreant convenience…
