Hi Vlk,

Few ?’s….

I’ve had to do a fresh install and lost my Avast Pro License number…. Any chance of getting it e-mailed?.

Whilst doing the install, I did a backup with just the OS (XP) loaded, then another backup with the OS plus Avast. ‘Shadow Copy’ backup was fine with just the OS but not possible once Avast was installed. Can anything be done about this… ie on the ‘wishlist’ ?.

Tuther thing, shouldn’t Avast automatically configure existing mail accounts set up in Outllook (not Express). It wouldn’t do it for me, either upon installation of Avast or by running the wiz.

T’tuther thing, I’m not one of MS’s biggest fans and have never used a MS mail client before (well once, just long enough to find out I didn’t like it! :frowning: ). Anyway, I’m making a dogs dinner of a job of setting up my e-mail accounts in Outlook. They work ok (individually) when I do the ‘test settings’option in Outlooks account set-up, but when I let rip from the ‘Send/receive’ I get errors!. Ok not your problem, but is it normal when Avast is installed for Outlooks… whadda you call it!.. urmm ‘progress window’ ???, to fly through the accounts reporting errors and/or successes before Avast’s mail icon has finshed doing it’s thing?. Ie the ‘cop car’ light is still going but Outlook has finished reporting.!?.

T’t’tuther thing… do you know the ‘e-mail support’ doesn’t appear to work from Avast’s menu ???

Thanks.

Well no… he doesn’t, but perhaps he’ll reply with this subject header :stuck_out_tongue:

No problem. I’ll try to get it for you.

Well we’ve been talking about this issue already, haven’t we? What do you mean by ‘not possible’? That you can’t back up the couple of files that avast has locked?

Well, I’ll ask the MS guys why’s that and what we can do about that…

Tuther thing, shouldn’t Avast automatically configure existing mail accounts set up in Outllook (not Express). It wouldn’t do it for me, either upon installation of Avast or by running the wiz.

Outlook (not Express) is covered by the Outlook/Exchange provider. No extra settings are necessary (no Wiz, no fiddling with SMTP/POP3 servers/ports/credentials).

Hehe no it’s not normal. But I’d need more info on this, I don’t quite understand what could be causing this. Try to disable the Outlook/Exchange provider for a while, and see how it behaves without avast loaded.

You mean the e-mail link in the Help menu in avast user interface?
I have no idea. ;D

Vlk

Thanks Vlk for all of your support… to be serious, it is always good and appreciated.
btw… any chance of auctioning off that hat in your picture or are you wearing it for a bet? ;D

I’ll write this in more detail tomorrow (I have some more stuff to do here tonight, hehe ;)) but yes, that’s right, Outlook is covered automatically by the avast Outlook plug-in (you should be seeing the avast Outlook plugin logo every time you start Outlook, aren’t you?).

Quotation from the avast help file (the Mail Protection Wiz page):
MS Outlook or Exchange clients are automatically protected by avast! and there is no need to set anything.

Don’t feel embarassed - how should you know, right?

Night night,
Vlk

I can hear your words ringing in my ears Vlk, how does it go… read the $*%%¿¡ manual :-\

I would be interested to know how it works when you have time… it’s been part of my life to have a little blue cop car light follow me around ::slight_smile: 8)

Good night.
