I noticed that the amount of connections of my newsreader is limited to 16. Could that be caused by the NNTP scanner?

Could be? Yes
Likely? No
A definate answer?
Can’t be given with the little info you have provided.
So, tell me, Eddy-boy, which information do you need to post a more informative reply?
Is that the flag of Luxemburg? (Don’t tell me it’s Dutch!)
It is Dutch. Luxemburg has lighter red and blue.
Wait a few hours. A pre-release of the next Avast version will be distributed. It should solve many problems. Let’s see if it changes the 16 nntp connections.
As Dutch as the NL in my nickname, hm…
But you didn’t answer my question yet, did you?
To my knowledge Avast does not limit the amount of connections. But there are some issues with NNTP which should be fixed in the pre-release.
The default concurrent connection limit is 20 (for mail & news together). If the limit was exceeded, you would see “Closing connection due to MaxConnections” in log file (Avast4\DATA\log\aswMaiSv.log). The limit exist not to save resources, but to prevent connection looping in strange configurations, so you can increase it without worry. Insert such a line to file avast4.ini under [MailScanner]:
MaxConnections=50
(the value of 0 disables the limit)
Thank you vojtech.
I’m using a beta version of Newsman Pro, which enables a maximum of 99 concurrent connections.
Usually the NNTP server is limited to 4-6 connections, but Newsman can connect to many NNTP servers at the same time. I noticed some behaviour that triggered this question.
Again, thank you for your information!
