Links in posts appear as ads

Some forums incorporate ads amidst the topic replies. It is a way of paying forum expenses, and the ads are mostly ignored.

I just posted a reply on this forum with a link, and the link appears as an ad. I edited my reply to add “See:” so readers would understand this is part of my reply.

Ironically, the second link in my reply was to an Avast page, which appears as alphabet characters only.

This is confusing to me, and likely to other forum readers.

It isn’t entirely clear what it is that you are reporting, a link to the topic would have been helpful. Though you are presumably talking about this one https://community.avast.com/t/what-is-ritrag-com/879487/3

The forum software when you post a link if in the Case of Securi there is a site description it incorporates that in the post.

I don’t see anything in that post that looks like an add.

EDIT: I have posted a number of these links that ultimately have a description of the site - see https://community.avast.com/t/web-shield-alert-on-qnap-qsync-exe/879485/4

Hello DavidR,
Yes, your link and my screenshot above are examples of what I’m referring to. When posting a link, it should appear as a web address and not a graphic “ad” for said website.

Well you can edit your text when you see it in the Preview window to the right of your input text so it’s POTs Plain Old Text.

https://www.virustotal.com dropping the “/gui/” bit at the end.

Lets confirm that that works after posting.

EDIT :+1:

Yes, thank you! I will try that on my next applicable reply. :slightly_smiling_face:

You’re welcome.

That said, I didn’t put that there in the first place, so it looks like when the Avast Forum software has a external link to sites like these is may try to get more information.

Some might consider that helpful, others not - why subsequently we see the “Links in posts appear as ads” - when I don’t think I would consider them ads. When there are other posts where external links aren’t displayed in this way and subsequently no “Links in posts appear as ads” notification.
