Little problems when i have updated to Professional from Home

Yesterday I have updated to the professional version of Avast! choosing the package of 3 years updates.

Previously, I used the Home Edition.

I followed the instructions to insert the new license number, which is regularly accepted, but the program is set again as Home Edition despite various installations.

The only change is that now I can see the provider blocking scripts.

But when I try to enable Push iAVS I receive an error.
Avast! tell me that it is activated only on the Professional Edition!

Thank you and forgive Google for the bad translation from italian language!

Strange… did you restart the computer after entering the key?
What does avast! About box say - avast! Home or Professional?

Sure, after every installation i have restart my computer

What does avast! About box say - avast! Home or Professional?

When Avast! start i can see this box:

Seem to say Professional

But when I select “About Avast…” from the tray menu I see this:

And the version is Home…

Now I want try to remove Avast! and all entry in the registry then reinstall the software.

Thanks for your response

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the last version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Strange indeed that the ‘About’ dialog does not seem the correct version…

Looking at the avast version in the about avast, it not only shows the Home version but the beta version of avast home 4.7.1083.

So I don’t know if that might have had an impact in the upgrade to Pro.

Doing a clean install as Tech suggest should resolve the problem, but you would need to download the ‘current’ Pro version, 4.7.1074 and use that when you reinstall.

You could then apply the beta again or just wait for the next regular program update that hopefully shouldn’t be that long.

Yes, I try to install the beta to resolve the problem… unsuccessfully

From the scratch and you’ll be happy 8)
You can apply the beta after that like David said.

I follow all the step, the problem remains the same. I have 8 providers running like a normal Professional but I see only Home Edition in the about box.

It’s possible a licence key problem?

Note the expire date of my licence, is not only 3 years from yesterday but many months (15?) more… 1 february 2011!

Maybe. You can ask about this on sales (at) avast.com
Did you install from the scratch, following all steps?

I doubt that, it is I think when you first buy the pro version you get an extra 60 days (like the trial version) added on and it looks like it has been rounded up to the start of the next month. So that would account for the extra 3 months.

Did you download the latest Pro version as I suggested that would put you back on avast Pro 4.7.1043 (not 4.7.1074 as I first mentioned).

Rebooting between steps is also important as is the use of the uninstall tool to ensure any registry remnants are removed. You shouldn’t use your old Home version and upgrade that but install the Pro version after the uninstall, reboot, run the uninstall utility, reboot and install the latest ‘Pro’ version that you downloaded.

My suggestion of installing the beta with the pro version was only if you actually wanted to continue using the beta version as the about avast showed you were using it with the home version, it wouldn’t resolve any issue. I would suggest that until you have the Pro version fully installed, reported correctly and working you ignore any beta update.

I have download the latest pro version and it is 4.7.1074.
Every step I reboot the system then I remove the ‘Alwil Software’ directory under 'C:\Program Files'
Check the registry and remove any ‘Avast’ and ‘Alwil’ entry and reinstall the software.

Now I have found a really strange thing…

Look this:

I click with the right mouse button on the tray icon and select ‘About Avast!..’ I get the right box…

I start Avast!, right click on his window and select ‘About Avast!..’ and get the left box!

In the same moment, on the same desktop!!

The problem seem located only in the tray icon, I just try the repair installation without success.

I think that I restore a clean True Image installation of Vista and try to install Avast! Professional on a clean system.

Thanks a lot for yours patience and for yours response!

On the ‘Licenza’ button you can see that one user is common and other is the administrator. One needs UAC and other not, on Vista.
Are you using more than one account with admin rights?
For Alwil team, seems an error on how this installation was updated…

No, we have 4 account on my computer but only mine have the admin rights.

Infact, I have restored a clean installation of Vista with Acronis True Image and installed Avast! Professional from scratch. Now all is ok!

Probably I have made some confusion (normal for me, eh eh) in the passage from Home version to Professional…
I have insert the new licence key over the old and update the software, I think that this is incorrect. Better uninstall the Home then install the Professional.

Thanks again for you responce and Your appreciated patience!

The patience and perseverance is on your part, glad that you now have it resolved.

Welcome to the forums.

BadCode, this should work. This is how Alwil says it works. There is some strange thing upgrading on Vista. Maybe you found a bug.

Do you have any special (modified) access rights for avast! installation folder?

If Igor is correct, you do not ‘follow’ all the steps… i.e., it’s not a standard installation…
Please, give us some feedback.

That was just a question, not really a statement

Not voluntarily or consciously

Im sure that i followed all step.

I have only an idea, aswclear.exe don’t remove all Avast! entry in the registry.
When I check after use it found many key from Avast!

I use Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
