Hey Hoe
First post in wee while and I hope I’m not missing something. :-
There is no AVAST folder in C:\Program Files???
Have been using Avast AV Pro for few years now with other Firewall. Have recently upgraded to AIS update to date version and went to find the installation folder.
Have I missed where the default install location is these days ??? ???
Thnx all 8)
It’s \Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast for me try opening Task Manager and right click on one of Avast’s processes (AvastUI.exe is one) and then click ‘Open File Location’ would be the fastest way of finding the install folder.
Thanks Asyn;
First thing I did. Search shows Avast Folder (389mb)that’s about right in Program Files. But when I go to Program Files there is no Avast Folder.
Isn’t that a bad thing? :
Ya, no worries there. But it’s wiggin me out. I don’t understand why there isn’t an "Avast Software\Avast Folder visible. ???
Have you heard of anything like this? Man, Computers eh
Thnx again Asyn
Well I did find "Avast Software\Avast Folder in Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data.
Very weird.
In any case, will it mess anything up if I moved the Folder to C:\Program Files…or would you just leave it Mmmmm :
Yes, you definitely would.
There are two folders - one in Program Files (or wherever you installed the program to), the other one in Documents and Settings\All Users (fixed location).
Thanks Igor: Well that’t the quandry ??? I simply used the Installer and it chose the location ( I made no alteration to thr install process.
Search says there is a "Avast Software Folder in PRogram Files BUT not visible.
Now there was An Avast Folder a version ago or so. Whatever, just has me concerned!!
Thnx guys, appreciate the input
If you have avast! icon on desktop (or in Start Menu), you can rightclick it and select properties to find out where the link points to.
If it points to a location you don’t see (but it still works), the problem is most likely in the tool that cannot show it for some reason

Thanks Igor, sounds reassuring
The “tool” must have worn out ;D
It’s late for you and early here so again, thanks
When you say that you can’t see the folder, are you using Windows Explorer? Have you reviewed the settings for hidden and/or system files/folders? Which type of view do you use for the parent folder (when you have the inside of “Program Files” being displayed)?
If you updated from Avast 4 thru Avast 5 to Avast 6, on WinXP the install path will likely be C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5. This far, I haven’t done a full clean uninstall and reinstall and that’s where my Avast install folder is.
Thanks Gopher John.
It’s seems to be one of those glitches that for some reason the File Folder simply is not visible in Program Files Folder. All searches indicate that the Installation folder is located C:\Program Files\Avast Software\Avast however it’s not visible.
Yes, back when I was on V.4 and possibley V.5 it would show up as C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast but then in V.6 I believe changed to “Avast Software”.Oh well
No worries all runs perfect, just strange not being visible.
Thnx again 8)
