Hi, recently my laptop has been taken for repairs, and the workers deleted my Avast. I re-installed it but passwords will not work. I relied heavily on the random password generator, so I can’t even guess what everything used to be.
Can a solution for this be found?
Me too bro my game account is locked now!!
Hi,
Please clarify in which way it is not working for you.
Perhaps the component is not enabled.
To do so please follow these steps:
- Open Avast Antivirus
- Click on Menu >Settings > General > Troubleshooting > ADD/MODIFY COMPONENTS
- Make sure that Passwords (old) is selected
- Click on CHANGE
I lost all my passwords to, but there are none password old in the settings in the new Avast.
Hi,
Please attach a screenshot of your (ADD/MODIFY COMPONENTS) settings.
Please see this article on how to generate a screenshot (if need be). https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Create-screenshot
It’s not in settings, it’s under troubleshooting.
Follow the directions and you’ll get to Passwords (old)

Same here, I lost all my passwords after my PC cannot be powered up and went for servicing. the motherboard has failed so I have to replace the whole PC. After installing Avast security, I did select the Passwords (old). I was asked to login using Avast account (not the Master account). I dun remember my Avast account password as I always only use my Master account. So I tried using Google account but it gave an error and could not proceed. So I click on Forget password and managed to change. However that’s when I realised all my passwords are gone. It said it detected Avast account password changed so it asked me to use another device that is sync before. I used my phone but also cannot work. Nothing happened after I entered the code it sent to my email. I think it’s becos my PC already died so there is only one device left but when I click on the option where no other sync devices are available, it asked for my old previous Avast acct password. Well I would not have reset the password if I had remembered it so its now a dead end for me. What can I do?
Sync it with your phone. It’s what I had to do when my computer’s HD failed and was replaced.
Same problem, it asked me to login to Avast account which I did. Then I indicate no other devices to sync and thats when it asked me to login to my previous password which I dun rem, that’s why I reset the password in the 1st place.

Hi,
I just sent you a PM.
I followed all these directions and still don’t get to the saved passwords. All it tells me is:
Password Protection
Web browsers are not vaults, and any passwords stored there are vulnerable to theft. We prevent both malware and unwanted apps from accessing your browser passwords until you decide what’s allowed
What happened to the saved passwords in Avast?
Do you have Password (old) installed?
Yes I followed the directions and clicked on the passwords old.
Have you opened or if needed re-activated the bowser extension?
Yes I did. And I get a blue window with the revolving circle and it says “starting”. On the toolbar it shows the Avast “key” with a red exclamation point
It used to be if I went to Avast>Privacy>Passwords it would pop up with a complete list of my websites and passwords. That’s gone now
A screenshot may be helpful.
This is the screenshot I’d like to see,

Here’s the screenshot.
Hi,
This (Avast “key” with a red exclamation) would indicate that Avast Passwords has not been installed, even after you might have selected Passwords(old)
This is not related to Password Protection.
Could you please Restart Windows?
The odd thing is that when I was using Avast Free it worked. It still works on my other computer. But when I upgraded to the paid version of Avast Premium Security it disappeared. I’ve restarted Windows and it still isn’t working
