I have a mailaccount by lycos but it have no Pop and Smtp server
The url is http://webdav.lycos.nl/httpmail.asp and that is a http link.
How configure i that Avast scans email on http?
I’m not sure but I think you can’t
avast only works - by now - with pop3/smtp servers accounts. I’ve heard they are trying - Vlk forgive me! I know it is a lot of work - to change the email detection way of avast 8)
But, can you download your emails with any pop3/smtp client (program)?
If so, you can be protected by avast
if it’s a web-based email…i thought a well-customized standard resident shield should do the trick… ???
with pop3/smtp servers accounts
Saying web based may confuse some, for AOL would be a web based for some perhaps, would not work also. Web based meaning, a real email program, not one that is controled and forced fed to you, as AOL is, and other non pop or smtp email clients.
Hi All; >:(
I was thinking the same thing, Avast such a great program it is, does not seem to scan http mail and, that includes Hotmail.
*One way out is as Technical suggests in his reply, Re:Lycos mail

*Pick up Lycos mail (and Hotmail) via another pop address: yahoo etc…
*The other is finding another antivirus prog, (just as I was getting use to avast).
*That is unless the Avast developers are going to make changes to Avast to scan http mail.
you mean avast doesn’t scan if you download attachments from hotmail??? ???shouldn’t be isn’t it…i thought the resident shield should catch any virus?
anyone can clarify??..thanks
I have another Antivirus.Avast don’t find a virus that my taskmanager and register disabled. It is al good now but i know Avast is not the perfect antivirus
Which AntiVirus software are you using ?
Now i am temporary using Mcafee 7 until i have Another good Antivirus
Oh, of course, Standard Shield could only catch the virus signatures present in VPS file (database) and to catch at a download file, you must choose to scan ‘all’ open/create/modified file in the Standard Shield settings.
Did I make myself clear? 8)
The irony there really bugs me. I’ve only heard bad things about Mcafee.
mcafee is okay…but avast is much much better!!! ;D
and thanks for clarifying tech…
I had much trouble with McAfee 7 … which is why I “jumped ship” to join the avast! shipmates here! ;D
CharleyO,
Congrats on making full member.
Thanks, bob!

8)Just in case you did not understand and, for the sake of simple folk like myself;
In Standard Shield setting/Customize/Scanner (Advanced) tab, select, Scan Files On Open / Scan created/modified files.
This seems to do the trick and, makes the Avast icon in the system tray whirl.
8) For extra peace of mind, you could click on the Advanced tab and, select Show detailed info on performed action (you have to be quick to read it though).
Sorry! Avast developers, for what I said earlier.
Avast is realy great program.
;)Thanks Technical.
