dont know if this is caused by avast-but i installed the 4.6 6.23
and now when i try to send or get mail this is the message i get

Can you try increasing the time-out duration for your email program.

sorry should have told you outlook express 6.0 service pack 2 installed,my setting were the same as what you showed me.also when i click send or get mail the error message come up in about 1 second,so i dont think it is a time out issue

I wouldn’t call disabling Internet Mail, fixing the problem, that is bypassing the problem and also indicates that your accounts are not setup correctly.
Or your firewall is blocking the Internet Mail provider ashMaiSv.exe, this is the more likely case as when you switch off the Internet Mail provider you can connect. What is your firewall? Is there anything in either the firewall logs or blocked applications that might give an indication ashMaiSv.exe is being blocked?

Log=20
to file C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\Avast4\Data\avast4.ini under [MailScanner] for detailed logging.
Then send one mail (or retrive mail if incoming mail is the problem), which will generate the log file. After that, send me by mail the log file C:\Program Files\ALWIL Software\Avast4\Data\log\aswMaiSv.log. Thanks.

Didn’t you happen to have any firewall that may have been incorrectly uninstalled ?
no the only firwall that ever been on cpu is from microsoft,when i installed service pack 2 and i never have unistalled it
