Mail Sheild not working - Fix not working - Outlook not right either

Just did a clean install and ran into the same problem when 7 was released: Mail shield not turned on and cannot turn it on no matter what.

Outlook is not working right either. “Cannot connect to the server.” Sometimes a Microsoft pop pops up asking if I want to connect to which account. It will work if this happens, but connecting and getting mail hangs or takes about 2 minutes. I’m using it via IMAP to connect to two email accounts, one being gmail. This worked fine during the betas, but not during the release unless I install on top of the RC.

I can roll back to where I installed on top of 7 RC, but would prefer to have it working correctly provided it’s not a big drawn out deal. Does anyone know of something simple that might get this working?

could you check the avast logs and windows event viewer?
thx

Hi,

could you perform a clean uninstall again. After that check if the aswRdr2.sys is still located in the system32\drivers folder. If yes, please remove it manually (as well as everything else starting with asw*.sys) and install it again.

Thank you avast.de! This worked for me :-*

Thanks, this worked for me as well.

Anti-spam module isn’t loading, but don’t really need it as Gmail’s works fine.

@avast.de

None of those files exist on my PC.

Running Windows 7 sp0 32 bit, with Windows Live Mail Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3538.0513).

On the “Summary”, “Current Status” page, it says “Real-time shields:” Off, Urgent: Mail Shield off and gives instructions to press various buttons. Neither the “Fix Now” button nor either “Turn on” hyperlinks do anything.

On the “Real-time Shields”, “Mail Shield” page, it says “Please run the avast! service first to activate this shield”. How do I do that?

I had a small problem with Auto sandbox and one thing led to another and I had to reinstall avast, I also experienced the same problem! Mail Shield wont turn on!! I reinstalled avast 3 times! Anyway now I installed AIS 6 and trying to manually update to AIS 7 via the GUI. Hope it works.
