Mail with *.xls attachments

I’ve installed Avast! (of course ;D) on my brother desktop (XP pro-Avast! home)and when my brother receive mails with .xls attachments Avast! always tells the mails contain viruses…
I’ve made a search here without solutions… No! I’m not lazy ;D
What is the answer, please? ::slight_smile:

I’m sure avast doesn’t “tells the mails contain viruses…”, rather that they may contain viruses, even if they did, you still have another layer of protection, Standard Shield.

avast! Internet mail - Heuristics > Basic attachments check (always checked), *.xls files can contain macros and may be classed as suspicious.

Thanks DavidR for your help 8)
I’ve made a test with my brother: I sent him right now a mail with an .xls attachment, and this is always the same result: Avast! destroy the attachment file…(.xls) :-\

Which mail client are you using?
What does it mean, “avast destroys”?
Does avast give you any messages (virus warnings etc)?

...I don't find the way to setup what you tell me, sorry :-\

Hi VLK, nice to help me!
My brother use OutlookExpress. When I send him mails with .xls attachments Avast! destroy the file attachment, so he’s got only my mail WITHOUT the .xls file…
Sorry for my poor langage VLK, hope you’ll understand me :-\

Are you sure its is avast that is playing with you as OE can block certain email attchments.

my brother pb was here! Thanks DavidR 8)

No problem, OE started doing that after a security update some time ago, unfortunately MS didn’t document it very well and the option is not easily found.
