Malfunctioning Avast..

Hi,

I have a paid version of Avast and also had this on my old laptop. Most of my family use it with no problems…

However, I have just noticed my Avast isn’t working - it has a big red X saying ‘Unsecured, your system is not protected. Please use the fix now button to start protecting your system’. It won’t let me do anything really, scan, update etc…

So I tried clicking this and I get prompted by windows to enter my password, which I do. Then nothing happens, I tried installing updates (if there are any) and it won’t let me.

I tried googling the problem and it was suggested to go to control panel and repair - however there is no repair button.

I’m really puzzled as to how Im meant to resolve this problem. Any help on the issue would be greatly appreciated…

Regards,
Craig

For a repair of avast.
Windows, Add Remove programs > select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Then reboot

Hey,

Ok… ive done that. I get to repair, click repair and im prompted to enter my password. I do so…

Then I get an error message saying:
“Error Processing packages. Please use full update”

I get two option:
Ok and view log.

I dont really understand the log so click ok… and nothing happens…

did you reboot ?

hmmm…you may have to reinstall…

Have you done a system restore at the last time? This can cause those problems. Then i also suggest a new install like Pondus.

Are you maybe using avast! 7.0 BETA ?

PS: Why is BETA not strictly in the BETA section so we won’t have confusions like this. Because symptoms feel to me like he’s using avast! 7 BETA.

Thats a yes on both counts… I did reboot my laptop, alas to no avail.

And yup, I have done a system restore recently…

So - does it sound like the only feasable way to resolve this is to reinstall? How would I go about doing that… would I need the key/code again to get the full verion of avast?

I don’t believe im using the beta version, or at least it doesn’t advertise it being beta anywhere. Im using windows 7 if that can help at all??

Follow this instructions:

  1. Download the correct avast! setup file: http://www.avast.com/download-software. Take note of your Registration key or, if you need another key, the registration form can be found here: http://www.avast.com/license-center
  2. Uninstall avast (Control Panel)
  3. Boot
  4. Use Avast Uninstall (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) for complete deinstallation.
  5. Boot
  6. Install the downloaded setup file
  7. Boot
  8. Enter the Registration key and configure avast! for your needs
    Please report back your result.

See first line in first post

Reinstall avast, then put the paid key in.

If it helps:

Inserting the license key into: avast! Free Antivirus, avast! Pro Antivirus and avast! Internet Security.
