Malicious URL blocked pops up over and over while online with Infection: URL:Mal

I was online to start with and had no problems. Then I went through my PopTray program to filter through my unwanted emails and download the rest. I have used PopTray for at least 2 years. I use Windows Mail for email.

After downloading mail I started going through it. There was one of my normal ad emails from drugstore.com. I went there to check out the ad and when I clicked on the “enlarge item” option I got this big, red, avast warning. Long story short, now I get it every time I click on anything with my browser open. I use Firefox 12.

In all instances, so far, the warning boxes are showing the “Process” as either PopTray or RocketDock.

Can someone help me please?

Update: I have changed the topic name on my post because I am getting absolutely no answers. I have tried to run Essexboys scans.

On the Malwarebytes scan it showed no infections. On the OLT scan I thought I understood there should be two files to attach, but I ran it twice and never got the “Extras.Txt” file. Only one notepad window opened following the scan and I am attaching that log here. Am also attaching the aswMBR scan file. I did not want to continue on with the RogueKiller scan until someone responds.

the malware remover do this as a volunteer work.....they also have a life so they will not be in the forum 24/7 and they also may not be on the same time zone you are in so you have to be patient

Essexboy is usually in here late UK time

Thank you Pondus. I will wait and see if I get an answer.

you will… when Essexboy is back in about 18 - 20 hours

Yes,

With essexboy, you are in the best of hands. Could well be that this particular flag is an av false positive as seen to the nature of PopTray. Sometimes a particular dll there has been found up as KGB keylogger. Well just wait for essexboys’s analysis,

polonus

Polonus: I am now recalling that Essexboy helped me some time back in getting a badly infected, older laptop going. He was absolutely wonderful and that’s no spoof! I will try to be patient. Thank you so much for your comment, which helps generate encouragement and patience.

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

THEN

Is it only firefox ?

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop

Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2

[*]Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
[*]To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
[*]When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
[*]GooredFix will check for infections, and then a log will appear.

Please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredFix.txt).

I opened Firefox today and have been to several of my normal shopping sites and there are no longer any of these WARNING pop ups from Avast. Could this have been some glitch originating from Avast itself?

When I would get the warnings, under the “Process” line it was showing one of 3 different things: Either Firefox, PopTray or RocketDock. I have attached one of those warning boxes for reference.

I don’t want to take chances that I might have some hidden infection because I bank, shop and pay bills online. Please advise if I should go ahead and proceed with the steps you provided.

Yes please continue with the steps

I am attaching what I understood you to want.

You did not mention that after restart, OLT would product a log from the first run (RunFix). I did save it if you need it. Also you did not request that I save the OLT.Txt file as that Asini so I hope this is correct.

There is a folder on my desktop labeled “Gooredfix Backups.” Inside is a file that says “reboot.txt.”

On that GooredFix run, in order to run it as administrator I had to pin it to my start menu. I don’t know what is going on with that but for quite some time now I do not have the “Run as administrator” command on my right-click context menu unless I pin the item to my start menu.

Is your UAC switched on ? otherwise the right click option will not be there

Yes, I just checked and UAC is on.

Did you find anything in the logs? Perhaps you are still working on it. I will wait to hear.

Thanks!

Your logs looked good

I am currently searching for a reason as to why the right click run as admin is missing

How is the computer behaving now ?

Computer is behaving fine. It was before too, except for getting those continuous avast! warning pop ups. Was that just some glitch within avast!?

As long as you are going to check into my “Run as administrator” command, about the same time I had another problem with my context menu. The command to scan items with avast! is there on the menu, but it will not scan unless I have the item inside a folder. For instance, when I get an attachment/photo via email I always saved it to my desktop, right clicked and scanned with avast!. I always used this command on installers I had downloaded too. But that command will no longer work unless I place these items inside a folder.

There is an exception to this and that is game shortcut items. I can right click on those and choose the avast! scan command from the context menu and it will scan those, but nothing else unless items are first placed inside a folder and then I can just scan the whole folder.

I’ve tried and tried to get help for both these things but nothing anyone has suggested ever worked. I’ve run check disk and I’ve run the sfc /scannow command to check for problems. Nothing has ever come up.

There is a registry fix here that may work http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-or-disable-right-click-context-menus-in-windows-explorer/

The warnings were not a glitch in Avast as you did have some adware on the system

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
