Malware detected when downloading Any Video Converter.

Hello everyone. I have recently received a malware warning when downloading a file from the FileHippo App Manager. This is the first time I’ve ever received a warning from a file downloaded from FileHippo.

  1. Malware detected when attempting to download file using the FileHippo App manager.
  2. The source of the file is from the FileHippo website. I also get the same result if I download it directly from FileHippo.
  3. Filename is avc-free.exe
  4. This is the Avast popup I received - https://gyazo.com/18f1cc6308a4b79013f7c9f8e93ec1eb

Something else to note is that previous versions of this program did not contain malware.

FileHippo prides itself on its virus and malware-free files, and I’ve been using it for years. It makes me think this is a false positive, but you never know.

Edit: In case it wasn’t clear, I’m trying to figure out why this is being flagged as malware. Thank you.

Please follow the directions for scans in this topic and attach as many of the logs as you can run.
Logs to assist in cleaning malware

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log, the FRST.txt and the Addition.txt logs. Thanks.

Does it always give the process as Chrome in the warnings or was that just a direct download?

Avast is actually preventing me from downloading the file, and as such, I cannot run a scan on said file.

It lists Chrome as the process whether I use the FileHippo App Manager or direct download.

The logs are not scans of the file but rather scans of what all is running on your system. Please read the link and run the scans with FRST / FRST64 AND Malwarebytes AntiMalware (if you can).

Please see the attached logs for Malwarebytes and FRST.

Be aware to avoiud known bundled installs. The latest version/ current version of AVC is bundled optional of known controversial product “DriverScanner 2012”.

I’ve always been one to be careful when installing anything, regardless of where I get it from, or if I’ve downloaded a previous version.

That being said, is this why Avast is flagging this as Malware?

Considering this: https://virustotal.com/#/url/0548f4b12fec3d965832692cd68e2803e7a5c4b7325c49e706417c388386d56e/detection
could be, but you need someone from avast to say what the generic detection holds.

Hello,

this version is clean program without malicious activities

Are any of these viruses? ???

No as the name say, they are PUP = Possible Unwanted Program
Anyway it seem detection is in AdwCleaner quarantine folder. Empty it and detection should be gone

Okay, thank you, everyone, for your replies. Thread closed.
