Malware infection - Please help!

Since updating Avast yesterday I am getting a Win32:Malware-gen infection messagge every 5 mins on C:/Windows/Installer. I also had to deactivate my PC Tools Firewall in order to have my internet connection up and running since the Avast update. I’ve runned ComboFix which seems to have gotten rid of the other 2 threats (Win64: Sirefef-A & Win64: Sirefef-AO).

I followed the instructions on the “Logs to assist in cleaning malware” page and am attaching all the requested logs.

I would appreciate your help.

Here is the last log

Combofix should only be run when told so by a removal expert…

Also attach combofix log

Removers are notified but it may take hours before one arrive, so be patient

Here is the Combofix txt.

Hi there asyou have run Combofix I will need you to re-run OTL and FSS please to see what remains to be done

I runned Combofix yesterday based on advice received from a different source, before finding this forum.

OTL and FSS were runned a few hours ago and the reports attached to my last post. Do you want me to run them again?

Thanks,

Gaby25

If they were run after combofix then no, but if they were run before then I will need a fresh copy of each… This is due to combofix performing some repairs

They were run after Combofix. I appreciate your input on this issue.

Thank you,

Gaby25

Thank you for your reply. I run every process as requested. Here are the logs produced.

After RK finished each process it opened my browser to a page on “How to get rid of ZeroAccess (Max++)”. Do I need to follow these instructions?

My PC Tools firewall is still acting up. If I turn it on I cannot access the internet.

I also realized that I have about 40 new Windows updates ready to be downloaded/installed. Should I proceed with this now?

Thanks,

Gaby25

Yes download the updates whilst I check the logs

OK that was easy…

I will need you to re-run Combofix… But first delete your current copy

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Well, the PC seems to be running fine. I can activate the Firewall whilst surfing now and Avast does not identify any current threats.

Can I delete all the programmes/logs/zip files used for the diagnosis, now showing on my desktop?

Please let me know if there is something else to be done.

You have been very kind by having taken the time to give me a hand with this issue. Thank you very much!

Gaby25

So far so good, no signs of new viruses. I’m very gratefull for your help.

Can I erase the files that you sent me zipped? Should I run Malwarebytes on the other household PC just in case?

Thanks again,

Yes delete the zipped files and the reg files from the desktop
