I have three computers, one is running Avast Pro, the other two are running Avast Free.
One of the computers running Avast Free has contracted the “Your system is infected” malware. The PC is running under Windows XP and has “windows updates” enabled.
The wallpaper has been replaced by a black square reading “Your system is infected…” and keeps asking to allow “Antivirus 2010” run.
I ran a boot scan last night and after long hours it uncovered five potential virus files which were deleted. Unfortunately, the malware was not neutralized and it’s still appearing on every boot.
I’m afraid I have developed a more serious problem. It looks like I deleted a required system file when doing the scan last night. I had lost the network connection on that PC so I decided to install the suggested program from an USB stick, that’s when I realized that I needed to do a restart, needless to say, the PC will not start even in Safe Mode. I will try to do a repair off the Windows CD, otherwise, I will have to reinstall Windows.
When it rains, it pours!
One more question. Once I get things running again, should I install Malwarebytes in addition to Avast?
