Was just wondering if something has recently changed in avast that would make malwarebytes start detecting this C:\PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\Avast5\chrome\CHROMEINST.EXE Trojan.Startpage
Started about an hour ago and i wasn’t even doing anything on my computer, any ideas?
It hasn’t given me a file to send in quarantine, all i got was that this was blocked and my system was frozen.
Did a forced shutdown and reboot but it hasn’t shown it’s self again, might try an avast repair just in case something has been taken out of the registry.
Also did an on demand scan with malwarebytes and nothing, seem’s to have been the file shield that did the initial block.
During an avast install it would give you the option to install Chrome, if you chose that option that file would be used to do the install as Chrome doesn’t come with the avast installation file. If you chose not to install Chrome then that file wouldn’t be used, but it may already inside the avast installation.
There is no chrome sub-folder in my avast5 folder, I declined the Chrome installation option, very early in the avast install.
Hi DavidR, i haven’t got the foggyest idea why this had happened, never installed the chrome feature with avast and i also could not find that file so im assuming that i may have deleted some google bits from regedit but that was two days ago, all fixed now anyway with a fresh install of avast and the new malwarebytes 1.50 beta.
