Mark on Avast Icon

Just installed Home Edition today and notice when I boot up the PC a small red symbol with a line thru appears on part of the spinning icon Until I right clik on the icon and attempt to then clik that part of the menu that says to activate I can’t get into any of my programmes. Would appreciate advice.

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Do you have any other antivirus installed in your computer?
Did you have in the past? Which one?
Do you use a firewall? Which one?

Also, take a look into Administrative Tools > Services
and see how the four avast services are set to start (automatically or manual).

Done the repair. Still get the small white ‘tik’ inside red circle at boot up but now when mouse makes contact without any cliking it disappears and no problems accessing other progs. No other antivirus pros installed but previously had AVG but this full uninstalled. What is this mark within the icon please?

It could be that the antivirus is disabled. It should be a red cross into a blue ‘a’.
If you put (not click) the mouse over the ‘a’ icon, how many providers are running?

manukes

can you go to Start > Run and then type in the box:

msconfig

and click OK.

In the display if you click on the “Startup” tab is there an entry there called ashDisp and is it ticked?

Action on this last post did the trick. System now all OK. Thanks to all.
