McAfee AVERT Stinger / Fake Alert Stinger [RESOLVED]

These ARE 2 different Apps / Utilities, right?
I had in recent weeks been periodically downloadiing McAfee AVERT Stinger to have just in case.
Today I noticed McAfee Fake Alert Stinger.
The version number just happened to be almost identical to the latest McAfee AVERT Stinger that I have.
And the File Sizes are around the same range.

The Info on them seems to indicate that they ARE 2 different things, but I just wondered because of the very similar version numbers and File Sizes.

If they ARE 2 different Apps / Utilities, ARE they good?
Are the SAFE to routinely use periodically? Or are they risky and could screw up your computer?

The fakeAlert was made for the rogue scanner alerts…it is now itegrated in stinger

Stinger is not for routinely use, you download latest version when you have a problem…

Ahhh! So then you’re saying that McAfee AVERT Stinger IS a bit riskier to use rjoutinely than say … MBAM and SAS?

It is a cleaning tool…to be used when infected, just like Dr.web cureit / Norman malware cleaner / Vipre rescue…
The programs also have no update funktion, so you download latest when you need it

Stinger is a standalone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system.

Okay … Thanks, Pondus!
