Memorial Day weekend is here. This holiday suffers from extreme purpose creep. It is meant to be a day set aside to remember those who died in military service to our country. Somehow over the years, it also came to be a day to honor all veterans (which is what Veterans day is for). It also came to be a day to decorate all graves, no matter whose they are, at least around where I live. This has taken on sort of a fashion show feel for cemeteries. Memorial Day is also the traditional start of the summer vacation season. And then there’s the Indianapolis 500. That’s all fine and good, but sometime this weekend, please stop and give a bit of remembrance and honor to those who gave the last full measure for their nation and fellow man.

This year I have two things to celebrate this weekend.
-
Honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe and free.
-
Celebrate Alice’s birthday and remember the person who cared enough in his passing
to make her birthday possible. Which is today.

To My Brothers In Arms Who Didn’t Make It Home And To Those Who Did-God Bless You
Not being a resident of the USA, I still want to addd my 5 cents;
I was in Normandy last week, with my 18 year old son.
We visited Omaha beach, the American cemetery in St Laurent sur Mer and the memorial in Caen.
It makes me humble to see what your fellow countrymen did for our freedom.
I wanted my son to see what has happened, especially while we’re living in a time where all to easy
the United States is being blamed for interfering in area’s outside the US.
Just to show him why we live in a free country, what the history of this all is and to remember.
And the fact that he can wear his hear the way he wants, and can express himself in freedom isn’t to be taken for granted.
He was greatly impressed and I think there should be always memorial days, to keep history alive and in honour for those who fought for our freedom.

I’m from Canada. I think Memorial Day should be remembered all over the Allied World. We already have here November 11th for the veterans of WW! and that goes for WWII too, but we should have it the same Day as you Americans. Anyhow, I salute all of you US fighters for the just cause. Peace & Justice!!!
This may be a day to late for the holiday but,
it’s worth watching on any day:
