Have downloaded Microsoft’s Anti Spyware program, an attempt by them to tackle the huge mal/spyware market of programs out there. I thought I’d give it a go. Available at their downloads page. It’s a Beta program, so no support as such, but personally I’m feeling good about this. ;D
It actually is looking promising, but it’s early days .
I like the interface and it’s easy to navigate.
A feature is linking all users , if you permit, to connect and collect information and spread to the network of users new mal/spy-ware instances and collect and share that info. I’ll see how it goes, but this program looks very promising.
I’m keeping Ad-Aware , and just using the XP sp2 Firewall. Sygate firewall is a consideration , if XP SP2’s isn’t adequate.
If others have any feedback from their use of MS Anti Spyware I’d love to hear from you.
There is already a thread about this. Use the search option on this board to find it.
And it isn’t all that good (the application), as I have explained there.
edit: to the moderators: Move this thread to the other one?
Eddy Search results didn’t bring up the thread, but I looked through your posts; and for others the URL is :

I see no data posted to suggest there’s any obvious problems although ?
I think this is the one he was talking about.

Or maybe this one? ;D

You know I started to try it, but after reading some of the reviews from users at www.download.com, and discovering that there is no UNINSTALL OPTION I decieded not to bother, I’ll stick with Ad-Aware and Spybot!
Keep in mind that the free versions of Ad-Aware and Spybot find alware after the fact. MS AntiSpyware is resident.
It may not be the greatest but right now it’s free. ;D I have all 3.
:o No uninstall ! oops… ;D

Emulators, Game Roms, Dos boxes ; I've learn't so much "tidying up" after his intuitive & not so intelligent meanderings on the Web. No harm done really ; :P ... somehow the kids of today really have a knack of doing the most adventurous things, which I'd never consider doing myself. Thank God for AdAware, Avast! , Spybot , and all the essential remedy Utilities !

I still use Roms, Emulators, Dos boxes now at 16 years old (still a kid inside i suppose ::))
But im at college learning things like programming, advanced database and spreedsheets (if you can call them advanced), business in ICT, systems and configeration etc, which i find interesting. (All part of my A level)
But i can’t wait untill next year when i get onto graphical design and Website design.

I ended up uninstalling it. False positives and menu options that either didn’t do what they said they would or just wouldn’t work.
PigDog
Another thing i noticed about the Microsoft Anti-Spyware, if you configer the anti-hijack page option, then change user accounts, it gives you a nice warning ‘Warning, homepage has been changed’ , Nah, you think so, its a different user account :![]()

I downloaded Microsoft antispyware from the microsoft site and it came with a uninstaller.
I thought I would give it a try too. It does have an uninstall. I don’t know how good the program is. Did anyone use it and find anything with it? Mine was clean ;D

Great ! Microsoft Anti-Spyware flags BitDefender as spyware ;D ;D ;D

I’m amazed that the article again mentions the possibility of a lawsuit against Microsoft over this false positive.
How many lawsuits have been filed agains BitDefender over false positives in their software?
I guess if this software was still owned by Giant, that subject never would have come up.
OK Bob, imagine Rumania 2005. Do you think a telephone-call to Redmond-USA ("Hi Bill, could you do me a favor…) would be of any help ?
From BitDefenders point of view, I can imagine them thinking, the only thing that helps, is threatening with lawyers. Not that this will be of any use I guess… ![]()
Fast
Strange, I have BitDefender (free) installed as a second scanner and Microsoft Anti-Spyware did not detect it as spyware :-\ :![]()
There’s so many permutations involved with each system, and the software installed that it’s interesting ; but annoying , to find that what works for one person doesn’t always work for another. Maybe in 20 years computers will have evolved to a more ‘standard’ base , where you don’t feel your chasing your tail in circles every couple of days. The bottom line I feel is designating a plan of what you want to do with your computer, and sticking to it. With so many ‘yummy’ toys being thown on the market almost daily, it’s very tempting to try the ’ latest ’ thinking it’s the best. Multitasking is a headache . :![]()
